The death took place of Mrs Lilia Dwyer, late of Morrisons Road, Waterford, on October 5. There will be a full obituary next week.
The death occurred last month of Leo Doherty, aged 89, of Wolverhampton and Cheekpoint. Youngest son of Philip Doherty and Josie Doherty (nee: Hanlon) and brother of Phil (Faithlegg) and Matt (Congress Place), Waterford. Predeceased by his wife Josie and dearly missed by his loving son John, Leo left Cheekpoint as a young man to work at the Goodyear Tyre Plant in Wolverhampton with his uncle Pa. He served his time to become a Tyre Dresser and spent his working life at the Goodyear Plant. He was a gentle, quiet spoken man who loved dogs. He never lost his love for Cheekpoint and returned many times. His ashes will be spread in the village at some point in the future. RIP.
Masses in Crooke and Faithlegg Churches this week will be on: Wednesday, October 16 - Faithlegg at 11.30am; Thursday, October 17 - Crooke at 10am; Saturday, October 19 - Faithlegg at 6.30pm; Vigil Mass on Sunday, October 20 - Crooke at 11.30am.
The Passage East Singing group reconvened on Thursday, October 3 following the summer break. The group meets every week on Thursday in the community centre in Passage East, from 8pm. We look forward to meeting up with our regulars and prospective new members. All are welcome.
At a committee meeting last week it was decided to recommend to the County Board that from the coming year the ages should be U14, U16 and U18 for minors. Training is now on every Saturday for the U20 team but not on main pitch, which is still out of bounds for another two weeks or so, after a draining operation. A reminder of the club's Quiz Night in The Saratoga, on Saturday, October 19, and the annual €550/50. Split the Pot envelopes for sale Ben Power's Shop, Cheekpoint, The Estuary Café, Passage East, Saratoga Bar, Woodstown, Willow Hair Boutique, the Glen, Waterford and Furlong's New Geneva, Passage East. All proceeds go towards the ever expanding juveniles section of the club who've been super representing the club all year competing and travelling all over the county and country.
The good news is that the WellKids U4 to U6 boys and girls continues during the winter in the gym every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
