Sympathies

It is with deep and sincere regret we record the death of Mr James (Jimmy) Quinn, late of Ballybeg Park, who died on Thursday, May 1, at Waterford Regional Hospital. Formerly of Luffany, Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny, his remains lay in repose at Falconer's Funeral Home, Tramore on Sunday, May 4. Requiem Mass took place in St Saviour's Church on Monday, May 5, celebrated by Fr Robert Grant PP. The readings and the prayers of the faithful were read by family members. The gifts were brought to the altar by neighbours of Jimmy's, Bernie Hearne and Esther Fitzgerald. His brother-in-law sang at the mass with his partner. His granddaughter Abbie said a lovely few words about her granddad at the end of Mass. Jimmy was a very popular community man in Ballybeg. A lifelong member of the Workers Party he was always ready to help people out. He was a committee member of the Ballybeg Action Group and many other committees in the Parish. He loved sport, especially hurling, and was a member of St Saviour's GAA at the very start of the club. He was a family man and he loved his two grandchildren Abbie and Aaron. Jimmy will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. Predeceased by his wife Patricia (Pat), parents Margaret and James’s, brother Eddie, sister Kathleen Power and his niece Kate Quinn, he is survived by his only son Jimmy and his partner Sonya, his grandchildren Abbie and Aaron and their mother Deirdre, his brothers Richard, John, Patrick, Aanthony and Eamonn, his sister Jodie Murphy, brothers-in-law , sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, his wonderful neighbours in Ballybeg and his many friends.

Birthday Corner

A very happy birthday is wished to Gary Sinnott, Clonard Park who celebrated his birthday on Saturday, May 11. Birthday wishes come to him from all his family and his many friends. A very happy birthday is wished to Chloe Griffin, Woodlawn Grove, who celebrated her birthday recently. Birthday wishes come to her from all her family and her many friends. We also send birthday wishes to her mam Vicky, who celebrates her birthday on May 22. Birthday wishes come to her from all her family especially her mam Miriam, Pearse Park.

Sympaties

It is with deep and sincere regret we record the death of Mr Laurence (Larry) Evoy, Ballybeg Square, who died on Tuesday, May 6, at University Hospital Waterford, following an illness bravely borne, surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Doyle Street and late of Cherry’s brewery. Larry's remains lay in repose at Thompson's Funeral Home on Thursday, May 8, with Vigil prayers and Rosary. Larry's Funeral Cortege walked from Thompson's Funeral Home to Ballybricken Church, for requiem mass on arrival on Friday, May 9. Larry was a gentle man and he always had a word for you when he met you. He was a loving husband to his wife Chrissie and he loved his children and grandchildren. He was a popular employee of Cherry’s Brewery until he retired some years ago. He will be sadly missed by family and friends and all who had the pleasure to know him. Predeceased by his mother and father, Mary and Jim, his sisters Hannah, Mary, Chrissie, and Theresa, brothers Micheal, Thomas, Robert and Hucksey, he is survived by his wife Chrissie, daughters Lynn and Elaine, sons Kenneth and Karl, sons-in-law Aidrian and Maurice, daughter-in-law Miriam, his loving grandchildren, brother Dano, relatives’ neighbours and friends.

Edmund Rice ARA

The members of the Edmund Rice ARA are just back from a lovely trip to Arklow where we stayed in the Arklow Bay Hotel. Many Thanks to McGinnely's tours and all the staff in the hotel for making it a lovely few days.

Parish News

Masses daily are at 10am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Sunday Masses are at 8.30am, 11am and 5.30pm. The parish shop is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 12pm. Baptism takes place following 11am mass on Sunday and you are required to give one week’s notice. Please contact the parish office. You can book a mass in the Parish office every day up to 12.30pm and Fr Grant PP is available to take booking for mass following all masses on Sunday. St Saviour's Church choir meets in the church every Sunday morning at 10.30am. If you would like to join them, please come along where you will be made most welcome. First Holy Communion

The pupils of St. Paul’s National School celebrated their First Communion on Saturday, May 10, in St. Paul’s Parish Church. Fr. Pat welcomed them as they joined our parish community with their family and friends and received their First Holy Communion accompanied by the parents, siblings and family and friends. The music was very inspiring and the students had practised so well for their special day. Many thanks to their dedicated teachers who helped them prepare for this special occasion. A happy day for all the pupils and their parents and families.

Residents' AGM

Lismore Park, Lawn and Heights Residents Association AGM will take place on Monday, May 19, at 8.15p.m in St. Paul’s Parish Meeting Rooms (between the Credit Union and St. Paul’s National School).

Firefly Party

Junior Infants from St. Paul’s School joined Laura from Firefly Parties recently, for a magical morning at Browne’s Road Library. Much enjoyed by the pupils.

Congratulations

Congratulations and happy birthday to Mary O’Toole, formerly Marian Park, now residing at Signa Care, Ferrybank, Waterford, on her 92nd birthday. The day was marked with a very enjoyable party with all her family and friends. Good wishes on your special day, Mary. Warm greetings come from her sister-in-law Kathleen, Manor Lawn, as they share so many happy memories of former times together.

Browne’s Road Library

Everyone is welcome to attend the Bealtaine Coffee Morning on Wednesday, May 14, at 11am celebrating arts and creativity. Come along and enjoy a relaxing time in our local library.

Also as part of the Bealtaine Festival, a wreath making workshop will take place in the library on May 28, at 10am. Laura from Firefly Parties will be showing us how to create our own wreaths. Pastoral Council Meeting

A very productive meeting of the Parish Council took place on Tuesday, May 6, in St. Paul’s Parish Centre. The main topic on the agenda was the upcoming 40 Hours Eucharistic Adoration which is due to take place from Friday, June 20, at 7.30pm, and ending on Sunday, June 22, at the 11.30am Mass. All groups from the Parish will be invited to take part and individuals are welcome to join us whether it’s a short or longer time. During this time those who are ill will be especially remembered, those recently bereaved, those who are in difficulties of any kind ie physical, financial, relationship problems, or any similar difficulties, will be prayed for. A card for personal petitions will be available in the porch and will be placed on the altar each day. Some of the other topics covered were the upcoming First Holy Communion days in the parish and child protection is at all times on the agenda and diligently reviewed by Peter Kelly who keeps us informed of any new developments in that area.

Encounter

Encounter for young adults aged between 18 and 35 will take place on Tuesday, May 13, at 7.30pm in St John's Church, Parnell Street, Waterford (X91FH04). An inspiring talk will be followed by music and adoration, followed up with pizza and a chat. “Bring to your encounter with Jesus, hidden in the Eucharist, all the enthusiasm of your age, all your hopes, all your desires to love" - St. John Paul 11. Congratulations

Presentation Secondary School Well done to 1st year Lucy Lee, who finished 2nd in the Minor Girls 1500 and to 5th year Jana who finished 2nd in the Long Jump and 3rd in the Hurdles today in the East Munster Track and Field. Great results in hot conditions! Well done, girls! Both have qualified for the Schools Munster Track and Field Championships in MTU Cork on the 17th May.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration will take place in John Robert’s Square, Waterford, on May 25 and 26. It will take place in a special tent in the square from 12 noon on Sunday to 12 noon on Monday. All parishes including St. Paul’s and Butlerstown, will support this event and will have groups representing their area on a rota basis. All are welcome.

Happy 90th Birthday

Nancy Breen, formerly of Manor Lawn now living in the Holy Ghost Residence is wished a very happy 90th birthday by all her family, friends and neighbours. A wonderful celebration took place in the Tower Hotel to mark this marvellous occasion. What a surprise for Nancy when she arrived at the hotel. A great celebration to mark this momentous occasion.

Repair Café

Waterford Larchville/Lisduggan Residents Association have now branched out into a new venture in Manor St. John’s Building, Lisduggan on Monday, May 17, from 12noon to 2pm. A Repair Cafe is a place where we repair broken items together. Demonstrations of simple clothes and stuffed toy repair will take place or alternately bring something you want to learn how to repair. An initiative of Larchvill/Lisduggan Residents Association supported by Waterford Area Partnership.

Sympathies

Sincere Sympathy to the family and many friends of Brian Williamson, Hazeldene, Ballinaeashagh, Waterford, who died on April 30. Formerly of Tir Connell Road, Inchicore, Dublin, he was predeceased by his mother Mary Francis and father Joseph, brother Larry, sisters Aileen and Peggy. St. Paul’s Community College

Huge congrats to Sophie Falconer and Sophie White Langford who were part of the Waterford camogie team who won the recent U16A All-Ireland Shield Final on Saturday in Nowlan Park against Offaly. The final score was Waterford 3-11 to 0-10 victory over Offaly.

Tea Dance, Chat and Tai Chi 

Join us at Carrrickphierish Library on Thursday, May 15, for a calm and relaxing morning filled with music, chats and tai chi to celebrate not only Bealtaine Festival but also take part in the, 'Hello, How Are You?', ” campaign, which is about connecting with those around us and engaging in open conversations about mental health. Special guest is Liam Merriman. All are welcome to this free event, celebrating 30 years of Bealtaine.

Welcome Home

A warm welcome home to Maura Ryan, Manor Lawn, as she is back with us again after a spell in hospital. Her many friends look forward to seeing for a chat and coffee morning in Lisduggan.
