The death sadly occurred on Friday, July 5, of Jack Sweeney, late of Viewmount Park, formerly of Ballymacaw, BBC Shop, Johnstown and the Granville Hotel, Waterford. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary, he is sadly missed by his loving son John, sisters Betty and Kathleen, John's partner Valerie, her children Amy and Thomas, grandchildren Alex and Emily, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass took place in St. John’s Church, Parnell Street, on Tuesday, July 9, at 12 noon, followed by burial afterwards in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ballygunner. Condolences are extended to Jack's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.
The death sadly occurred on Sunday, July 7, of Martin O'Neill, Viewmount Park, Dunmore Road, and formerly of Slievekeale Road, Waterford. Predeceased by his loving wife Dolores and parents John and Catherine, he is sadly missed by his loving son Eoghan, granddaughter Hortense, partner Mona, daughter-in-law Aurélie, brothers Seosamh and Liam, extended family, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass took place on Saturday, July 13, in The Sacred Heart Church, The Folly, at 11.30am. As per Martin’s wishes a private Cremation Service will take place at a later date. Condolences are extended to Martin's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.
If you are living in the Williamstown or Dunmore Road area we have a mixed gender art group, ages 16 to 18 years, running every Monday from 7pm. If you are interested please don't hesitate to contact Nina on 086 7816269.
The games room is available to book - book in times every Monday in July and August; one-hour slots available for up to six young people per session. Pool, air hockey, Playstation etc. If any of our young people are interested in booking in throughout the summer, please contact Catriona on 083 0106257.
We are currently planning activities for the autumn in the Parish and would love to receive your ideas. There is a suggestion box at the back of both Benildus and Ballygunner Church. Please let us know what courses/classes/events you would like to see happening.
A Parish Summer Party will take place on Friday, July 26, at 7pm in the car park, or Parish Hall if raining, of St. Benildus Church Newtown, there will be a barbecue, music and lots of fun. The party is free of charge, donations will be collected on the evening for the Parish Summer Trip to Wicklow. All our faith community are encouraged to come along and it will be a family-friendly event. Please book your place with the parish office by Tuesday, July 23, for catering numbers.
The coffee morning takes place every Wednesday morning in the Benildus Parish Centre, immediately after the 10:30am Mass at St. Joseph & Benildus Church. Everyone is welcome to attend - no booking required. We hope to see some new faces over the summer months.
The Youth 2000 Summer Festival takes place from August 15-18 at Clongowes Wood College, Co Kildare. Ages 16-35. Donation only. Faith, fun, fellowship! For more info including bus routes go to www.youth2000.ie All are welcome.

Groups at the centre include the Men’s Support Group, facilitated and supported by a male counsellor. This includes outdoor activities of interest e.g. gardening, excursions, leisure interests. The group meets every Tuesday throughout the year from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
The Solas Waterford Choir meets on Tuesday from 7.30 to 8.30pm.
The Waterford High Hopes Choir is looking for a guitar player. Waterford Library Service Summer Stars Reading Adventure continues in all library branches until August 31. Each child is invited to register for the adventure at any library and will be given a Summer Stars Reading Card to record and track their progress. At the end of the adventure, children return their reading card to their local library. Waterford Library staff will visit schools in October to present the children with their Summer Stars medal and certificate of achievement.
