Tay and Mahon Valley ARA visited the Irish National Stud and Gardens on Thursday, June 27. Horses have been bred on this 800-acre farm since 1900. Lovely to see some of the greats in retirement on the green paddocks.
The lush topography provided shelter from the heavy showers and north-east wind. So much to see, including the Japanese and St Fiachra Gardens, will be revisited. Also visited Kildare Village. We all had great appetites by the time we got to the hotel for our dinner, top quality and enjoyed.
Back in Stradbally by 8pm, tired but happy. Honey is very scarce this year, brought back a memory as told to me by my father c.1950s. "A swarm of bees in May worth a load of hay, A swarm of bees in June worth a silver spoon, but a swarm of bees in July is not worth a fly."
We will organise an outdoor gathering/ walk or two during the next few months. You are welcome to join us. In the meantime keep warm and dry, stay safe and keep in touch. Any queries to Eileen 087 9365035 or Tom 087 9386209.
