The Dr Martin Day Centre in Portlaw is holding an Open Day on Saturday, June 15, between 2pm and 5pm. We will be having some music and refreshments to celebrate our 12 years in operation this year. We are extending an invitation to you all to attend our Open Day event as someone who has contributed to our success through your support, work or service to the centre over the years.
In September of this year the centre will celebrate its 12th anniversary in operation as a Day Centre providing essential services to the elderly and vulnerable people in the community. The Open Day is an opportunity for people in the wider community to come and visit the centre to see the activities and services that take place there and to view the premises as well as the new commercial kitchen that was developed last year.
A spokesperson for the centre commented: "The services provided to the community has far exceeded our expectations and we are proud to say that we have people travelling from up to 15km away to avail of our services."
The services include morning teas/coffees served with a scone, three course dinner, afternoon tea and biscuits, as well as many other activities such as music, arts and crafts, games and exercise. For those unable to attend the centre a meal-on-wheels service is also provided in the community.
The centre also provides chiropody and hairdressing services and the facility is available to local groups such as Red Cross, Active Retirement, Adult Learning & Education, Sewing and Knitting classes and a Prayer Group. We hope to see you on June 15.

Park Rangers 2 Portlaw 1.
Sadly it was not to be for the lads. The game was played in very tough conditions in Tramore but that didn't impact us early on and we took the lead through a fine finish from Kevin after a through ball from Eoin. We had the better of the play for the remainder of the first half without creating any guilt edged chances and the half ones we created found the Park Rangers goalie in fine form.
We started the second half on the back foot and conceded an early goal to make it level. Much like the first half opportunities were at a premium but we conceded a second from a long range shot which took a deflection wrong footing Jack. We pushed hard for the equaliser after that but it was not to be. Well done to all the lads on a very productive season and exceeding everyone's expectations by reaching the final.
Well done to Park Rangers on winning the cup and thanks to Tramore for the use of their facilities. Thanks also to the officials on the day they had a great game.
In the 2nd Division Cup we travelled to Kilmacow recently with a depleted team but the boys who travelled stood up to be counted and recorded a good result of Kilmacow 1 Portlaw 3.
Luke Walsh put us one up at half time with a wonderful strike, Kilmacow drew level just after half time. A peno from Shane O’ Brien five mins later put us back in front and Shane wasn't finished there as he made it three with a beautiful finish late on. We finished the game with two youth players on the field, Gerard Nolan and Tommy Rainer, a great experience for those lads. Up next quarter final on Wednesday night at 7pm, home v Dunmore.
Our Friday night crew have been playing 7-a-side on the astro for the last 20 years. However, lately the crew have been struggling for numbers. If anyone out there is looking for a game contact Kevin on 087 7058857 or contact the club FB page. All are welcome and anyone interested will soon see all ages and abilities enjoy the weekly game and the social aspect.
The local derby against Ballyduff saw Portlaw U13s come out on top in what was a very competitive game between two teams. The game could have went either way with chances from both sides but our defence stood tall and our midfield continued to create chances and when a chance arose Nicky Tobin he took it and scored the goal which proved to be the winner. It sent us straight through to the final. Super team performance and at full time it was greeted with joy from all supporters. Another soccer cup final for the village.
