The long-awaited official opening of the Sliabh gCua playground took place on Saturday, July 6.

The new playground represents a significant investment in our community's future, providing a safe and enjoyable space for children and families to gather, play and grow together.

This project has been a collaborative effort between local residents, businesses and community funding, and the committee are eager to share the results with everyone who made it possible.

The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches by key contributors, and various activities for children and families.

Sliabh gCua Community Centre 

A creative mindfulness Kids Camp will be held in the Sliabh gCua Community Centre on July 15, 17 and 19. The classes are open to children aged 4 to 8 years from 10am to 12pm and 9 to 12-year-olds from 2 to 4pm. 

The cost is €60 with sibling discount. 

Children of all abilities welcome.

GAA Cúl Camp 2024 

The Touraneena Cúl Camp will be held this year from Monday, August 12, to Friday, August 16. The camp caters for girls and boys aged 6 to 13 years and will include football, ladies football, hurling and camogie. 

The cost is €75 for 1st child; €60 for 2nd child; €50 for 3rd and subsequent children. The cost for a child attending a second camp without receiving kit and bag is €50.

To celebrate the return of this summer's Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps, Kellogg's are giving you the chance to win up to €25,000  for your GAA club. To enter, pick up a promotional pack of Kellogg's Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies or Bran Flakes, in stores from April 1.

You will need to go online and input the unique code from your promotional pack of Kellogg's cereal to nominate your club.

Cúl Camp spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Lotto 

The jackpot numbers drawn last Sunday night were 12, 14, 16 and there was no jackpot winner. The 5 x €20 winners were Barry Mansfield, Michelle Walsh, Judith Dalton, Caoimhe Keane and Therese Butler. The Promoter’s Prize was won by Dunne’s Bar. 

Next week’s draw will be for a lotto jackpot of €300.

To avail of great savings, don’t forget to purchase your July to December half yearly tickets. It costs €40 for a half yearly ticket, which means you get five free draws between July and December. To purchase tickets or for further information, please contact any Sliabh gCua/St Mary’s G.A.A. or Sliabh gCua Community Centre committee member.

Déíse Draw 

Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for the first Déise Draw of 2024, which will be held on July 12. The Déise Draw supports all clubs within the county.  The draw can be heard live on WLR FM. Tickets can be purchased from Sliabh gCua/ St. Mary’s G.A.A. committee members.

Open Air Concert

To book tickets for the Fenton’s Rebel Roots and Bluegrass Bash being held by the Fourmilewater G.A.A. Club on Saturday, July 13, from 4pm to 10.30pm, please contact either Brendan Reilly at 087 8345523 or Declan Spelman 087 7637616. 

There will be a free shuttle bus running from the Ballymacarbry Community Centre to the event from 3.30pm to 11.30pm. 

Parking is also available at the event site.

Table Quiz Success

A massive thank you to everyone who attended the table quiz at The Emigrants Rest, Clonmel recently! 

It was fantastic to see so many Clonmel and Ballymacarbry locals come together to support our Panda Playground fundraising drive. 

Your enthusiasm and generosity made the night a huge success. 

A special shout-out to Brendan Crotty and his quiz masters, Ken and Pat, for organising and running the quiz so smoothly. 

We also want to extend our gratitude to The Emigrants Rest Pub for hosting the event. 

We're thrilled to announce that an incredible €650 was raised on the night!

Golf Classic Fundraiser

Join us for a day of golfing fun and community spirit to help raise funds for Ballymacarbry’s Panda Playground!

This epic event will take place on Friday, July 19, in Clonmel Golf Club. There will be a €200 entry fee per team of four. Gather your friends and join us for a fantastic day on the greens, all in support of the Panda Playground. Your entry fee includes a two-course meal and a goody bag for each participant. We’ll also be holding a raffle on the day with some amazing prizes up for grabs. To register your four-person team contact Sean on 087 7712159.

Comeragh & Knockmealdown Challenge Cycle

Make sure to get your spot booked before it’s too late! The Comeragh and Knockmealdown leisure cycle challenge is coming to Ballymacarbry on Sunday, July 14. This Playground Fundraiser promises to be a great event. The event is part of Cycling Munster Leisure Series and will consist of two routes: 50km and 110km. Open to all cycling enthusiasts and leisure cyclists, you can register for the event through the link on our social media pages. We are looking for kind volunteers to be road marshals for this large event. Please contact us at the Community Centre on 086 0328467 if you would like to be involved.

Bricks 4 Kidz returns

We are delighted to announce the return of the hugely popular ‘Bricks 4 Kidz’ camp to the community centre this summer. The camp will will take place from July 15 to 19 from 10am to 1.30pm daily. Booking is now possible via the Bricks 4 Kidz website and through the link shared on the community centre social media channels. Book early to avoid disappointment!

Nire Valley Drop 2024

Our friends from the the Nire Valley Drop committee have something truly special organised for this year's summer event. Taking place on Saturday, July 13, the ‘Summer Drop’ gives all cycling enthusiasts two options to explore the beauty of the Comeraghs. On the day participants have the option to take on the new gravel grinder route or take the more adventurous mountain bike drops, which has been part of the Nire Valley Drop for over 10 years.

Both routes are approximately 40 -45km with short cuts should you need them. So with the dust beginning to rise on the trails get booking now – link available on the Nire Valley Drop social media.

Open Air Concert in the Nire Valley

The Nire Valley Drop Committee in association with the Comeragh Wild festival are delighted to announce "Fentons Rebel Roots and Bluegrass Bash" in the heart of the Nire Valley. Whether you have been biking during the day or not, this event is open to all! This truly will provide something a little different to attendees with plenty of fun and food in beautiful forest surrounds.

Taking place on Saturday, July 13, from 4pm to 10.30pm this event will play host to a riverside open-air concert with music from Mad Mike, Jack Colbert, Rising Tide and The Cedartowns. Tickets can be purchased using the link on the Nire Valley Drop social media pages or by contacting committee members, Brendan Reilly (087 8345523) or Declan Spelman (087 7637616).

A free shuttle bus will run from Ballymacarbry Community Centre to the event from 3.30pm - 11.30pm. Parking will also available at the event site. This is an event not to be missed! Funds raised go towards the redevelopment of the Mill Field GAA ground, so a fantastic cause to support.

Panda Playground Construction – nearly here!

The countdown continues – we are almost there. Construction is set to commence on the Panda Playground next week. Our fundraising still has quite a distance to go before we hit our target so please consider making a playground fund donation if you have not yet done so. These donations will deliver a wonderful long-lasting legacy for our area.

Our friends in Touraneena have already successfully delivered a wonderful playground to their community and held an official opening ceremony on Saturday, July 6. Well done to all involved in this playground development for delivering what is a beautiful facility for all to enjoy into the future!

2024 Cul Camp in Ballymacarbry

Nire/FMW GAA clubs would like to remind people that the Kellogg's GAA Cul Camp comes to Ballymacarbry on Monday, July 29, and continues until Friday, August 2. This is always a great week of fun and play for local children. Remaining places are limited so parents are urged to book your child's place as soon as possible. The camps are open to children aged from 6 to 13 years. Places must be booked online via the Kellogg's Cul Camp website.
