A massive well done to all the Touraneena Runner’s Club members who took part in the recent Youghal 10K and half marathon.

The ladies smashed the 10K and Noel took on the Half Marathon. Even after picking up an injury right at the start, Noel dug deep, pushed through and crossed that finish line. Fair play Noel, speedy recovery and well done ladies.

A proud moment for the Na Déise club unfolded at Croke Park recently during the LGFA All-Ireland finals. At half-time in the Intermediate final between Laois and Tyrone, members of the iconic 1999 and 2000 Waterford and Mayo All-Ireland finalist teams were celebrated on the pitch. Waterford, represented in both finals, faced Mayo in two hard-fought battles. Mayo emerged victorious in 1999 with a 0-12 to 0-8 win and again in 2000 with a narrow 3-6 to 0-14 result.

These victories marked a historic breakthrough for Mayo with the 1999 team becoming the county’s first to claim an All-Ireland senior football title. The tribute spotlighted three former Na Déise stars, Angie Walsh, Marion Troy, and Olivia Butler, who formed Waterford’s formidable full-back line in the 2000 final. Also on the Waterford team were the fabulous Ballymacarbry ladies, Martina O’Ryan, Anna Lisa Crotty, Rebbeca Hallahan (Capt), Catriona Casey, Clare Ryan and Geraldine O’Ryan. Among the standout players from the Mayo team that day were eleven-time All-Star Cora Staunton and current Mayo LGFA Chairperson Sinead Stagg.
