Remembrance Service

University Hospital Waterford Maternity Service would like to invite all who have experienced pregnancy, infant or child loss to attend a service of remembrance on Sunday, October 27, at 4pm in Christ Church Cathedral, Cathedral Square, Waterford. All who have experienced pregnancy, infant or child loss are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Children In Hospital 

We are seeking play volunteers to support children and young people in Waterford University Hospital. As you can imagine, hospital can be a scary and stressful time, so our volunteers provide a space for fun and give them a positive experience. Must be over 18 or older, two hours once a week, weekday or weekends. Find more information and apply here - https://childreninhospital.ie 

Solas Run and Walk for Life 

The Solas Cancer Support Centre’s Run and Walk for Life returns to the streets of Waterford City on Sunday, October 13, and Dungarvan’s Greenway on Saturday, October 12.

The 10K Run and Walk in Dungarvan starts at 10am at Walton Park. The 10k Run and Walk starts at 10.00am on the Quay in Waterford City. 

A new 4K family walk has been added to both Waterford and Dungarvan to encourage families to take part in tandem with the 10K routes. 

The popular virtual option is also available and workplaces are being encouraged to once again #GoOrangeForSolas. Registration is open online at www.solascentre.ie. The registration fee is €25 per adult and €15 per child. This fee includes a t-shirt and an event medal, kindly sponsored by Eirgen Pharma.

Schools For Life is Back 

Get your school involved and #GoOrangeforsolas ,#SolasSchoolsforlife on Friday, October 11. Wear orange socks/any piece of orange clothing to school. Do a 5km/10km walk around the school grounds. Cake sale or any idea of your choice.

Writing Workshops

Waterford Libraries is delighted to again bring a series of free Writing Workshops to the people of Waterford in 2024. The programme runs from August to mid-December and gives participants an opportunity to attend courses in both Irish and English. The courses are free of charge, open to people over 18 years resident in the City or County of Waterford. Application forms are available at Library Desks.

Speak in Stitches

A free repair skills workshop with Caroline O’Toole, Speak in Stitches. Learn how to carry out repairs, fitting, hems, and alterations by hand and sewing machine in four weeks. The workshop will run over four Friday afternoons in October; no experience necessary, from October 4 to 25 from 2pm to 4.30pm at Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford. Sewing machines and all materials will be supplied. Places are limited. If you have your own sewing machine and wish to bring that along you are most welcome to! Workshop funded by Waterford City and County Council as part of their Circular Economy Programme.

St. Joseph & Benildus Church

Tarsus Scripture Series: Deepen your prayer life through four inspiring recorded lectures on Praying the Psalms, part of the Tarsus Scripture series. Meetings will be held on October 1, 15, 29, and November 12 at 7:30 to 9pm in the St. Joseph and St. Benildus Parish Centre. The event is free, and all are welcome. Youth Choir: Are you aged 13-18 and passionate about singing or playing an instrument? Join our youth choir! The choir performs once a month at the 9.30am Mass in St. Joseph & St. Benildus Church with rehearsals every second Wednesday at 5:30pm.
