November is a time to enjoy the last of the autumn colours

Congratulations

Congratulations to Craig Dunne and his partner Ciara Hurly, on the birth of their daughter Fiadh, who made her appearance last week. Congratulations to big sister Ava too. Fun times, loads of hugs and cuddles ahead for all.

Sporting Congrats

Well done to our neighbours the Shamrocks who progressed to the Junior Club Football competition, meeting Buttevant in the Quarter Final in Fraher Field on Saturday. Alas, it was not to be their day and Buttevant emerged comprehensive victors. Still, all in all, it was a fair achievement to get to the quarter finals, so well done all involved.

Lismore Camogie

Lismore Camogie Club also fielded this weekend in the Muster A Junior Camogie Final against Clooney Quin (Co. Clare). It was not their day either with Clooney emerging the victors here. Again, a fantastic achievement to get to this stage. Well done to all.

Get Well Wishes

Best wishes to Seamus Barry who has had a recent spell in hospital. We are thinking of you Seamus, and wish you a speedy recovery.

Weather

Tis a terrible lot of weather we are having, though to be fair the cold has yet to hit and we have had a pretty good run of it. Yes, November can be pretty miserable in it’s outlook but to be fair it’s not all doom and gloom at this time of the year. Honest! Yes, it is cool and damp and yes, the daylight hours are shorter, and the mornings tend to be a bit foggy. But there are loads of good things too. What’s good about November? Well, while it is known for cooler, wetter weather, it also marks the start of the run-up to the Christmas season with markets and twinkling lights and lovely warm fires. You have a valid excuse to light a roaring fire, sit inside and read a book or just chill out in front of the telly. You could (if it is a nice brisk day) get out for a walk or a drive and enjoy the last of the autumn colours in beautiful West Waterford before we transition totally into the cool colour landscape of winter. Other benefits can be quieter, less-crowded tourism sites, so if you decide to visit some of the tourist sites around, there will be no crazy summer crowds to get in your way. You could decide on a quiet mid-week or weekend get away, with off peak prices making this a more affordable option at this time of year. The cooler weather makes it a perfect excuse for enjoying traditional pubs with a bit of live music, lovely hearty food and a chance of decent conversations and laughs without having to roar at each other over crowds. Or you could just take up a new hobby and start stargazing - the long nights and (sometimes) clearer skies make it a good month for stargazing – you never know what you might see! See, told ya, November is not so bad!
