Dip, Sip, Support

A fundraising Pink Swim (Dip) in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland will take place on Saturday, October 12, at 11am on Clonea Strand.

Participants are encouraged to dress in pink, join the fun, and help raise money for this very worthy cause. To take part, simply join the group “Stradbally Sip n’ Dippers” online — you’ll receive your pink swim hat in the post. Following the dip, a Pink Coffee Morning will be held in Whelan’s at 12 noon. All are welcome to come along for a cuppa, some cake, and plenty of community spirit. Any bakers who would like to contribute treats for the morning would be greatly appreciated. Come join in — whether by dipping, sipping, or both — and help support vital research and awareness for breast cancer.

Active Retirement News

Joan Corry, a valued member of Tay and Mahon Valley Active Retirement Group, unfortunately passed away on September 20. Due to ill health Joan was unable to attend our gatherings for some time. Our deepest condolences to Joan's husband Brian, son Ian and extended family.

Memories: Recounted from one member - "c1950, trashing corn, as a 12-year-old I got the job of suppling four barrels of water for the steam engine. I made two journeys with donkey and cart to the local stream and full containers in cart with water using a bucket (no running tap water in 1950). The steam engine was lit on the night before trashing at low burning speed. I was also responsible to keep it stoked with coal, and kept the tender on steam engine topped up with water from where it was injected into the steam engine. I had an oil can to oil various points in the steam engine and trasher. A flat belt from the steam engine was connected to the trasher. 10 shillings was the payment for my work."

We are organising events from now up to Christmas, which include Citizens Information, interest in Fair Deal and other entitlement and benefits, and hopefully have a speaker from AlHomecare, who care for older people in their own homes. For those interested, the Andrea Rieu Christmas concert takes place in Dungarvan Cinema in December. Not forgetting our Christmas Dinner. Also we will have a 90th birthday party to celebrate.

Our next gathering is Monday, October 6, you are more than welcome to join us. In the meantime keep warm and dry, stay safe and keep in touch. Any queries to Eileen 087 9365035 or Tom 087 9386209.

Sympathy

It was with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosemary Fennell (née Walker) of Ballyvoile, Stradbally, Waterford, who passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, September 25. She was predeceased by her baby daughter Mary, her parents Bob and Rose, and her brother Robbie.

Rosemary was a devoted supporter and leader of ladies' football, serving the Waterford Ladies County Board in numerous roles over 20 years and contributing greatly to Stradbally LGFA. Her commitment, leadership, and love for the game were widely admired.

She is sadly missed by her husband Pat, children Robert, Aimée, Melissa, Christopher, Nicola, and Tracey, grandchildren James, Darragh, Shane, John Patrick, Eoghan, Colin, and Róisín, her siblings, extended family, and many friends.

She reposed at Drohan’s Funeral Home, Dungarvan, on Sunday, September 28. Funeral Mass was held on Monday morning in Holy Cross Church, Stradbally, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
