Local Notes: Darkness Into Light, activities in community centre and more

Our now annual Ballymacarbry Darkness Into Light walk will take off from the community centre on Saturday, May 9 at 4.15am. Mark the date in your diary and don’t miss what is always a hugely fulfilling and memorable community event. There will be some wellâearned light refreshments served at the community centre after the walk, so make sure to come along to what is always a fantastic morning for the community.
Last Friday saw a fantastic crowd in attendance for Ballymac Bingo. This marked the final bingo of the season until after the summer period. Sincere thanks to everyone who attended on Friday and for all the support throughout the year. Bingo has been a great fundraiser, with proceeds each night going to a range of local groups and organisations. This was our way of saying thank you for the incredible support we received during our Panda Playground fundraiser. We now look forward to a summer bingo break and will be back up and running again in early autumn before we know it. Thanks again for the wonderful support.
We continue to host children’s birthday parties each weekend. The centre is an ideal location, with a large kitchen area, access to the indoor astroturf and the Panda Playground right outside the door. In recent weeks, we have also welcomed many secondary school groups, who combine their stay with walking activities in the Nire Valley. Schools love the facilities and the surrounding area and return year after year. If anyone wishes to enquire about a party or any event in the centre, please contact us on 086 0328467.
Get your fitness fix at the centre with weekly fitness classes led by Stephanie Byrne. For enquiries, contact Stephanie on 087 6291955. Badminton also takes place every Tuesday evening from 8pm – 10pm. All abilities are welcome for some fun and friendly exercise. The cost is €5 per night.
