Everyone in Passage East and in particular those involved with Passage Hurling Club were saddened by the unexpected passing on Wednesday, September 4, of Dick Donnelly, Post Office Square Passage. Dick will always be remembered for his major lifetime input into Passage Hurling Club. When the first hurling club was reformed in the area on July 14, 1960, named Suir Rovers, at first but then reverted to Passage Hurling Club two years later, he was its first Secretary. Along with being Secretary he was a fine player with the club and was noted for his quick reaction. He remained Secretary until the early 1970's and then took over the job as Treasurer. He held that until 2009, being one of the longest Club Treasurers in the entire country. He took over as Assistant Treasurer until quite recently and was the most competent official any organisation could have and his hallmark was his honesty and straight talking approach to anything dealing with club finances, which he always could stand over and was respected by all in the club. On behalf of the Passage Club we extend our sympathies to his sister Maisie and all his nieces, nephews and extended family.
On the field of play the U13 team had a thrilling one point victory over St Patrick's in Stradbally, in the cup semi-final, last Tuesday. They now meet Stradbally in the final in WIT Arena, on Thursday, September 19, at 7.45pm. This evening, Tuesday, September 10, in Fenor our U15 team play Brickey Rangers in the county semi-final.
The Annual Ferrybank AC promoted Primary Schools Cross Country event will take place at the RSC on Tuesday, September 17, at 11am. Short races for children in 1st to 6th class and children from Passage East and Faithlegg schools are expected to participate.
