Bereavement

The death sadly occurred on Friday, September 6, of Mr Declan Keohan, Grantstown, Waterford. He is survived by his loving family. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday, September 10, in St Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, at 12 noon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Condolences are extended to Declan's family, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

Children In Hospital

We are seeking play volunteers to support children and young people in Waterford University Hospital. As you can imagine, hospital can be a scary and stressful time, so our volunteers provide a space for fun and give them a positive experience. Volunteers must be 18 or older and be available to give two hours once a week, weekday or weekends. For more information go online to https://childreninhospital.ie 

Older People's Council

Waterford Older People’s Council will hold its  Annual General Meeting in the Mary Strangman (Large Room) at City Hall, Waterford, on Wednesday, September 18. All are invited to the event taking place from 2pm to 4pm. Light refreshments will be provided for those attending the event and information will be provided at a number of stands located throughout the room.

Run And Walk For Life

The Solas Cancer Support Centre’s, 'Run and Walk for Life' returns to the streets of Waterford City on Sunday, October 13, and Dungarvan’s Greenway on Saturday, October 12. The 10K Run and Walk in Dungarvan will start at 10am, at Walton Park. The 10k Run and Walk on Sunday, October 13, will start at 10am on the Quay in Waterford City. A new 4K family walk has been added to both events to encourage families to take part in tandem with the 10K routes. There will also be a virtual option available and workplaces are being encouraged to once again #GoOrangeForSolas. Registration is open online at www.solascentre.ie and the registration fee is €25 per adult and €15 per child. The fee includes a t-shirt and an event medal, kindly sponsored by Eirgen Pharma.

Bereavement Evening

Anam Cara and Solas are hosting a Bereavement Information Evening for bereaved parents on Wednesday, September 25, at 7pm in the Solas Cancer Support Centre, Williamstown, Waterford. The talk will be free to attend for bereaved parents but registration is essential. Join us for an evening of support and information as we navigate the journey of bereavement together. Anam Cara and The Solas Centre have teamed up to provide a safe space for those who have experienced child loss. With key note speaker Brid Carroll, a qualified Psychotherapist and Counselling Supervisor, with invaluable knowledge on bereavement and loss for over 20 years. Whether you are looking for information, guidance, or resources, this event is for you. Let's walk this path together.

Writing Workshop

Waterford Libraries is delighted to again bring a series of free Writing Workshops to the people of Waterford. The programme runs until mid-December and gives participants an opportunity to attend courses in both Irish and English. The courses are free of charge, open to people over 18 years resident anywhere in the county. Application forms are also available at library desks.

Speak in Stitches

A Free Repair Skills Workshop with Caroline O’Toole, Speak in Stitches, will begin in Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford, on Friday, October 4. Learn how to carry out repairs, fitting, hems, and alterations by hand and sewing machine in four weeks. The workshop will run over four Friday afternoons in October and no experience is necessary. The workshops will continue until October 25 and will take place from 2pm to 4.30pm. For more information or to book a place contact 051 849975 or email centrallibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie 

Sewing machines and all materials will be supplied. Places are limited. If you have your own sewing machine and wish to bring it along you are most welcome to. The workshop is being funded by Waterford City and County Council as part of their Circular Economy Programme.

Night Prayer

St. Joseph & Benildus Church, Night Prayer have resumed and will now run Monday to Friday, from 8pm to 8.25pm, via Zoom. The Zoom link can be accessed online through the link: 943 588 4859

Youth Choir

Are you aged 13 to 18 and passionate about singing or playing an instrument? Then why not join our youth choir?  The choir performs once a month at the 9.30 am Mass in St. Joseph & St. Benildus Church with rehearsals every second Wednesday at 5.30pm. River Ritual

Join us in celebrating the Season of Creation on Sunday, September 29, at 3pm at the Maypark Trail (Maypark Village entrance, X91 CH96). We will gather on the banks of the River Suir for a special river ritual, highlighting the beauty of creation and embracing the call to ecological justice. All are welcome  and we look forward to seeing you there.

Cuppa Agus Comhra

A chance to talk 'as Gaeilge' will begin on Thursday, September 26, in Benildus Parish Centre from 11am to 12noon. It will run weekly facilitated by Angeline. Art Classes

Art classes will be starting this week in the parish centre. Join Marcella Maher for six weeks of classes. They begin on Monday, September 16, and take place from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Explore the fundamentals of painting using acrylics. Learn to mix colours, landscapes, still life, and self-portraits. The cost is €80 and includes all materials. Relics of St Bernadette

The Relics of St. Bernadette will journey on pilgrimage to Ireland for the very first time this year, visiting every diocese in the country. This is a very special, once in a life-time event and all are invited to come and pray. The relics of St Bernadette will visit the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, Waterford on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 17 and 18. The schedule will be comprised of: 1pm - 2pm - time for schools; 2pm - 3pm - quiet time; 3pm - 4pm - Welcome Liturgy & Water Ritual; 4pm - 6pm - quiet time; 6pm - 6.30pm - Rosary; 7pm - 8pm - Mass; 8pm - 9.30pm - quiet time. Celebrate Waterford’s Showband greats in Ardkeen Library for Culture Night  on September 20. Whether you’re reliving memories or discovering them for the first time, come along for an evening filled with fun, laughter, music, dance, and lively chat. Bring your old photos, memorabilia, and stories—or just bring yourself. The event will take place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and will be free of charge.
