The death sadly occurred on Thursday, August 8, of Mr Emmett DeCourcy, Upper Grange, Waterford. Formerly of Sanofi he was predeceased by his loving mother Kay. He is survived by his loving father John, stepmother Geraldine, aunts Breada, Mary and Marie, uncles Jim, Ger, Henry, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. Emmett will be sadly missed by all his family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday, August 14, in the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly at 11am followed by burial in St Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneashagh, Waterford.

The death sadly occurred on Wednesday, Auugust 7, of Ellen Edwards, Williamstown Glen, Williamstown Road, Waterford; formerly of Paddington, London and Mullingar, Westmeath. Ellen was predeceased by her loving parents Vincent and Nellie. She is survived by her loving daughter Rachel, grandson Tadhg, son-in-law Gerry, brothers Pat and John, sister-in-law Alison, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Ellen will be sadly missed by all her relatives, extended family and friends, A celebration of Ellen's life took place on Monday, August 12, at 8pm and a Cremation Service took place in The Island Crematorium, at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 13. Predeceased by her loving husband Patrick, brother John, sisters Maureen, Joan and Ann, she is survived by her loving children Sharon, Owen, Fiona and Eric, son-in-law Paddy, Mary and Sinead, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Requiem Mass took place on Thursday, August 15, at 10.45am in St. Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Find out more about the traditional skill of basket weaving with a demonstration from local Tramore basket maker, Cathy Hayden. Cathy did her apprenticeship in basketmaking at Shanahan’s workshop in Carrick-on-Suir’s, Chapel Street in the early 1980s. She has been a Waterford Crafts member for nearly 30 years. From her studio in Drumcannon in Tramore, Cathy runs basketry workshops for beginners and grows her own willow for all her baskets. Her workshop in Central Library will take place on Wednesday, August 21, from 3pm to 4pm. 'The Heritage Blue Plaques of Waterford City & County', by Marcus Copley, will see Waterford Civic Trust join Marcus, from Waterford Civic Trust, for a journey through some of the stories behind Heritage Blue Plaque recipients and delve into the rich social and general history of Waterford City and County. It’s a vibrant exploration of our heritage you won’t want to miss. The event will take place on Thursday, August 22, from 3pm. For more information about this free event contact Central Library.
A map making craft workshop will take place in Central Library on Friday, August 23, from 11am. Celebrate Heritage Week and connect the past, present and future with a fun map-making craft workshop. Suitable for children age 8 to 10years. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and booking for the event is required.
A Coffee Morning/Cake Sale will take place in St Joseph & St Benildus Parish Hall on Wednesday, August 21, at 11am. in aid of Brú Columbanus. This charity is more than just a house or a facility, it's a home for the many families who stay there, enabling them to be close to seriously ill family members in Cork University Hospital. 'The Brú', has been that home from home for families from our community in recent times, for which they are eternally grateful. Come along for a coffee and support this worthy cause. Thank you.
A number of events will take place in Ardkeen Library for Heritage Week. On Tuesday, August 20, at 2.30pm Tigerlily Keoghan, musicologist, singer and piper, will explore the traditional music of the Irish diaspora of the United States in the decades following the Great Famine. This is a free event and booking is required through the library on 051 849755.
There are plenty of board games to choose from at Ardkeen Library every Saturday. The games include the likes of Chess, Scrabble and Connect Four to name but a few. The sessions will continue until August 31 and take place from 10.30am to 12.30pm. All are welcome to this free event, just drop in.
