Quote for the Week: “One day at a time is enough, Don’t look back and grieve the past...It is gone. Don’t be troubled about the future. It has not come yet. Live in the present and make it so beautiful, it will be worth remembering.” Anon.
Sunday, January 25, was a truly momentous occasion for our parish with the ordination to the Permanent Diaconate of David Cooney.
There was a large turnout for the ordination ceremony, performed by Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, and attended by David’s family and friends, priests, deacons, and reverend sisters.
Holy Mass was celebrated by Bishop Cullinan and co-celebrated by Mons. Pat Fitzgerald, Fr. Enna Condon, Maynooth Pontifical University, Fr. Dawit Teckle, Deacons Rev. Brendan, Rev. Eric and Rev. Brian.
The Readers were Jane and Rev. Brendan.
The massed choir, directed by Sean Hennessy, sang beautifully.
The altar was tastefully decorated by Gerardine and Bernie, the sacristan, who was thanked also.
Students from Presentation Secondary School, John Paul 11 Awards, played a very important role in the occasion by welcoming everyone and distributing the Order of Service. Mons. Pat thanked all who took part and helped make this such a memorable and enjoyable day.
The whole parish is supporting David on his new journey.
We all appreciate the generosity of his wife, Una, his children and grandchildren for sharing him with us and accompanying him fully at all times.
Bishop Cullinan wished David and his family abundant blessings and blessings also to all those Rev. David will meet and minister to throughout his life.

February 17, 2026 The first Mass in the newly built St. Paul’s Church was celebrated on February 17, 1972, and so, the Parish Pastoral Council has chosen that date to celebrate all the voluntary effort that now, and since then, has sustained the life of our parish.
We have been truly blessed with the generous spirit of so many people who have served our church and parish community in a multitude of ways.
So, this is an invitation to all who are serving, and have served in any way, in any and all of the ministries and services, to gather for a special Mass at 7pm on February and for refreshment afterwards in the Parish Centre.
St. Vincent de Paul urgently needs volunteers to carry out the very worthwhile work they do in our parishes here in Waterford.
At present, they need volunteers to help in various ways, for instance, Home Visitation, where you learn how you can make a difference by visiting people in their homes and offering support and friendship.
Another area is Vincent’s Shops, where you will discover how supporting our shops helps raise vital funds for people and families in local communities.
Child and Family Services is where you can help deliver services that support children, families and older people.
