A great family day out was held in the grounds of the Ballybeg Campus on Saturday last. We had bouncy castles and games of all sorts for the families and tea and coffee for all the adults.
Everyone was invited to bring their own picnic, and the weather was very kind to us. Well done to the organising committee for a wonderful family day out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ballybeg estate.
Southend FC also organised a soccer tournament, and the final was held on Sunday at Southend Grounds.

The Southend Academy for children aged 4-9 years, which takes place every Saturday, is now on its summer break and is taking names for the coming season. They will return again in September.
Boys and Girls aged 6,7 & 8 are back training from the 10/2/25 every Wednesday, 6pm to 7pm New Players are always welcome.

A wonderful occasion took place at the Cathedral of Most Holy Trinity on Sunday, July 20, when David, Brian and Eric were instituted as Acolytes and continue their journey to the Diaconate.
Congratulations and prayerful good wishes to all, especially David, who hails from St. Paul’s Parish and is a faithful member of The Prayer Group and Rosary at the Grotto.
His many friends and all parishioners are so glad and wish many Blessings to each of the Acolytes.
The Lisnakill Cemetery Mass takes place on Thursday, July 31, at 7pm. The Mass will be celebrated by Fr Pat Fitzgerald, P.P. Lisnakill Graveyard in Lisnakill, Butlerstown (X91 P2N5) is a historical burial ground with deep cultural and local significance.
The cemetery features a variety of headstones, some dating back centuries, reflecting the area's rich heritage and traditions. It is situated near the ruins of Lisnakill Church.
Surrounded by the tranquil countryside of Waterford, it offers a peaceful setting for reflection and remembrance.
Lisnakill Graveyard remains an important landmark, preserving the history and legacy of the local community.

The death has occurred of Marie Power, Nee Daly, Sunrise Crescent, Waterford, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, aged 87 years.
Peacefully, in the tender care of her family and all the staff at South East Palliative Care Centre, Oak Ward, University Hospital, Waterford, predeceased by her husband Joseph (Josie), daughter Alice and parents Edward and Alice. Marie will be sadly missed by her sons Patrick, Edward, Joseph and Brendan, daughter-in-laws Angela and Fiona, son-in-law Amir, and grandchildren Leanne, Eoin and Rebecca.
Arianna, Nicholas, Andrew, Jessica and Jamie, great-granddaughters Ella and Avila, brother Ted, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.
May She Rest in Peace.
Marie reposed in Power’s Funeral Home, Ferrybank, on Friday, July 18, from 7:30pm, with Prayers at 8:30pm.
Marie’s removal took place on Saturday, July 19, to The Sacred Heart Church, Ferrybank, arriving for Requiem Mass at 10am, after which Marie will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Donations, if desired to www.waterfordhospice.ie.

The Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Seamus Ryan welcomed a large audience to the Mayor’s Parlour at City Hall to celebrate the recent success of Up Down Boy at the Waterford News and Star Green Room Awards.
The Mayoral Reception was held in honour of David Hennessy, Sean Upton and Breda Giles for their roles in the acclaimed production.
The play received awards for Best Amateur Play, with David Hennessy named Best Director, Sean Upton was awarded Best Male Performance, and Brenda Giles took home the title of Best Female Performance.
Special congratulations to Sean Upton from Pathfinders St. Paul’s and Art Connects and all the crew of Up Down Boy.

The Rosary takes place at the Lourdes Grotto, Belevedere, Paddy Browne’s Road, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.30pm for the months of July to September.
The Grotto has been recently refurbished by Larchville/Lisduggan Resident’s Association and is looking splendid with beautiful flowers and plants.
