This was schoolboy football at its best as two excellent teams packed with players who wanted to enjoy their football. Both teams were always looking to attack, and between them they created a hatful of goal-scoring chances in the WSFL Under 15A League clash at workLAB Connors Park on Thursday night last.

As the score line reads, there were plenty of goals, six in all, and the difference between the two teams was that Tramore took their chances and Villa left a lot of good goalscoring chances behind them.

LIVELY OPENING

Tramore opened up brightly with Louis McDonald shooting into the side-netting from a tight angle after four minutes of play. At the other end, Villa striker Freddie Breen fed Hugo Thompson, who hit a powerful left-footed strike, but the Tramore goalkeeper Charlie Mahon pulled off a brilliant save.

Joey Robinson played a clever ball into the run of Thompson on 11 minutes, and after the striker cut in from the left, his powerful shot was on target, but once again, Charlie Mahon denied him with a diving save at his near post.

Tramore went in front after 21 minutes. Daniel Roche broke down the left flank, and when he crossed low into the six-yard box, his strike partner Louis McDonald was first to react and he stabbed the ball into the net from close range.

The seaside outfit doubled their advantage with a second goal three minutes later. This time it was Louis McDonald who turned provider as he played a well-timed pass behind the Villa defence, and Daniel Roche held off two Villa defenders before firing past the advancing Villa keeper Kajtak Splawski.

Villa nearly hit back with a goal of their own on the half-hour mark when Joey Robinson won the ball in midfield and took two strides to the edge of the box before driving in a right-footed effort that flew just wide of the far post.

On the stroke of half-time, the Villa captain, Max Chren saw his twenty-yard volley tipped away by the impressive Tramore net minder Charlie Mahon.

IMPRESSIVE SEAGULLS

Villa had plenty of possession as the second half got underway; however, it was Tramore who gave the home team huge problems with their pace on the counterattack. On 46 minutes, the visitors went three up.

Louis McDonald once again showed his pace right, and his cross to the far post found the unmarked James Cullinane, and he found the net with a stylish finish. On 56 minutes, Villa defender Lukas Adamiec left his header back to the keeper short, and ace marksman Daniel Roche was onto the ball in a flash to score goal number four.

Tramore defender Jimmy Brophy made it 5-0 two minutes later. He joined the attack for a corner kick, and when the ball broke to him at the far post, he made no mistake with a fine angled shot from the left side of the penalty area.

Villa grabbed a consolation goal two minutes before the final whistle when Darragh James rose high to head home a good left-wing corner-kick taken by Joey Robinson.
