“I think we showed the other side in our locker”

Dean McMenamy wheels away in celebration after hitting goal number two for the Blues against Dundalk.
Waterford FC managed to end the eight game unbeaten home run of Dundalk FC in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division when scoring twice for the first-time on astro turf this season to record a brilliant 2-0 win thanks to efforts from Connor Parsons and Dean McMenamy at Oriel Park on Friday last.
Speaking after the game, McMenamy said: “Yeah 100% it’s a great battling performance from the lads. We wanted a cleansheet before the game and that was the talking point coming up here especially when they hadn’t conceded a home goal in eight games.
“We wanted to come here and put up a game against them. I thought that we did. We done the ugly side tonight I think because we are a more ball playing side. I think that we showed tonight the other side that we have in our locker and it’s another cleansheet so we just have to build on that now.
“We were disappointed after the Shelbourne because we feel that we should have got something out of the game with the late goal that was disallowed for offside. We still think that it was onside and I think that we were hard done by if I’m honest.
“The focus from the gaffer this week was that we just needed to bounce-back from the disappointment. I think that the defeat didn’t affect us today, and I think that it showed that with a good win. It was unbelievable from Christie for the first goal.
“It came from their corner and he was able to break through two or three players. The pass is fantastic to Connor and he takes the goal well. Obviously it’s great to second goal of the season to help the team get the three points – that’s even better.
McMenamy has had to wait his chance this season, but the midfielder is happy to finally get it. “At the start of the season, I really wasn’t getting a look in. I had to keep my head down every day in training and work harder. The gaffer knows what I can do.
“I got the chance up in Sligo and I haven’t looked back since. It’s been a good run of form for us, but it’s great to get the win here this evening in what is a tough place to come. I’m trying to kick on in every game, and I’m happy to take every game as it comes.
“I thought that the fans were brilliant as well and they didn’t stop from start to finish. We know that it’s going to be a tough game on Thursday against St. Patrick’s Athletic. They are under a new manager as well, but the fans were unbelievable here tonight and I’m sure it will be more of the same at the RSC.
“We feel that the support that we get helps us on the pitch and gives that boost as well. Hopefully they’ll come out on Thursday to support us, but we’re just happy now that we’re leaving here with a win, which is fantastic.”
