After hitting the Cork Business League for 12 in their opening game of the Oscar Traynor Trophy, the Waterford and District Junior League made it two wins from two games with a 5-0 away win against the Munster Senior League at Crosshaven on Sunday last.

It was a solid away performance from Conor Coad’s side as they always held the upper hand throughout the course of the game, and once they opened the scoring on 22 minutes, the current holders never looked back.

There was a slice of luck surrounding the breakthrough goal as Aaron O’Connor sent over a corner-kick that was volleyed back across the face of goal by captain Darryl Walsh, but Adam O’Callaghan put the ball through his own net.

A second goal arrived just three minutes later when O’Connor was again the provider as the Villa man sent over a corner-kick that found the head of his teammate Dean Walsh, and he powered a header to the roof of the net.

The champions put the hosts to the pin of their collar with their third goal of the half on 32 minutes when Darryl Walsh’s brilliant lofted ball found Adham Masood, who took a brilliant touch to slot past the Munster Senior League netminder.

Waterford added a fourth goal in a rampant first-half six minutes later when O’Connor played another big part when the midfielder released Conor Kilgannon through on goal, and he made no mistake with a fine finish.

A fifth and final goal for Waterford arrived with 79 minutes on the clock when Dean Walsh went on a mazy run before squaring the ball into the path of Cian Browne, and he applied the finish from close range.

Three points ensured the Waterford League finished the group stage on top and are guaranteed a home draw in the Munster Semi Final to come in early January, but they will know that toughest tasks lie ahead in the competition.
