Villa collected the PJ O’Neill Under 11G Cup after a comfortable win over Dungarvan United at Graun Park on Saturday afternoon.

Mickey Coffey led the way for Villa as the captain hit two first-half goals to give the Connors Park outfit a deserved win. Dungarvan never gave up the fight and played their park in a very exciting cup final.

THREE EARLY GOALS

Villa were on the attack from the opening whistle as they pushed Dungarvan back into their own box. After only four minutes of play Villa had their first goal chance. Cian Hartery picked up the ball just inside the Dungarvan half and he beat two players but his right footed strike just cleared the crossbar.

Villa took the lead on nine minutes. Jordan Butler whipped in a cross to the far post and Luke Nevin controlled the ball before lifting the ball over the advancing Dungarvan goalkeeper Liam Willmott and into the net off the far post. It was two nil on 13 minutes. This time Mickey Coffey cut in from the far touchline and hit a powerful right foot shot that flew into the top corner past the diving Willmott.

On 17 minutes Villa went three up. Luke Nevin took the ball past three Dungarvan defenders and he pulled the ball back for Mickey Coffey who slammed the ball high into the net past the bewildered Willmott in the Dungarvan goal. Dungarvan were shell shocked at this stage but they came back fighting and on 20 minutes Tomas O Droma sidestepped the Villa defence and lined up a strike at goal but his effort was just too high and flew over the bar.

DUNGARVAN COMEBACK SHOT DOWN

The second-half was only four minutes old when Dungarvan pulled a goal back. Finudho O Huallachan took the ball to his feet inside the box, his quick turn fooled the Villa defence and the striker saw his shot smash against the underside of the crossbar but Tomas O Droma was on hand to stab the ball over the line.

However Dungarvan’s joy was short lived as Villa hit goal number four on 34 minutes. A Luke Nevin corner kick was cleared to the edge of the box by the Dungarvan defence, onto the ball came Lucas Vysnan and the Villa man hit a rocket of a strike that flew into the top corner beyond the Dungarvan keeper Liam Willmott.

Villa had another attack inside the last ten minutes of the game. Cian Walker played a clever ball into the run of Mickey Coffey, the Villa striker was looking for his hat trick but his left foot strike flew just wide of the far post. At the end of the game Micael and Edward O’Neill presented Villa captain Mickey Coffey with the PJ O’Neill Cup.
