Waterford AC Half Marathon proves to be a massive success once again

2,016 completed the EY Waterford AC Half Marathon on Saturday last, and the Official Starter was Brid Golden, President of Athletics Ireland. First home was Ryan Creech, Leevale, Cork, the holder in 65 minutes and 59 seconds. He also won it in 2022. 2nd was Jake O'Regan, St John's, Clare, in 66.40, and 3rd was William Maunsell, Clonmel, in 67.01. First lady home was Nichola Sheridan, Bohermeen, Co Meath in 77.22, 2nd was Lauren Dermody, Castlecomer in 78.29 and 3rd was Alex Murphy, Dundrum South Dublin in 78.46. The following were the Category winners: first of all, Ladies F35, Terri Milliard, Aghada AC, Cork; F40, Sinead Flannery, Ballintotis, Cork; F45, Breege Connolly; F50, Sinead Hickey; F55, Linda O'Sullivan, Watergrasshill; F60, Mary Buckley, Donaghmore; F65 65 Mary Sweeney, St Finbarrs, Cork ; and men M40. Sergiu Ciobanu, Clonliffe Hrs, M45, Enda Bagnall, Tramore, M50, Martin Magner, M55, Vivian Foley, Eagle Cork, M60, Paul MacGabhann, Sportsworld, M65, Francis Fleming, St Abban's, Laois, M70.John O'Sullivan. The promoting club Waterford AC had three athletes in top twelve Matteo Mary in 4th place just missing out on the top three, Pat Fitzgerald 7th , Noel Murphy 11 th, the latter two had run the Dublin Marathon a few weeks ago and had also ran in Derry the previous Sunday in the All-Ireland Senior X Country Championship for Waterford AC and Craig O'Brien Ferrybank was 16th overall.

The event was organised by Waterford AC, with help from many women and men. Thanks to the Management and Staff at SETU for putting their facility to the club and their many stewards on duty also, thanks to the many Gardai around the course and their presence was very much appreciated and all the stewards, thanks to the Order of Malta for their presence, to the lead cyclists and Pacers, those that manned water stations, and to their main sponsor EY and those that sponsored mile markers and supplied goods etc but most of all to all who competed in the race.
At the Munster Cross Country Championships in Tramore on Sunday last, Waterford was hosted by Tramore AC, and very well done to them for an ideal course down near the end of the Prom in perfect conditions, with Waterford athletes doing very well. In the Juvenile Relays there were wins by West Waterford AC in the u16 Mixed Relay, Ferrybank in the u 14 Girls with their last runner in particular finishing strongly to clinch it for the team and other top three placings were secured also by Ferrybank in the u10 girls 2nd, Tramore second in the u16 mixed relay and bronze medals by West Waterford in the u10, boys team,u4 boys team and their (B) team in the mixed relay were 3rd. In the Masters men, Waterford County won the team honours and West Waterford the club title, while Angela Tobin (West Waterford) was 2nd at o35, and in the Masters women team event, Tramore AC were 3rd.

On Sunday next, the 123 All-Ireland Novice and uneven-age-group Juvenile Cross Country Championships are in Abbotstown, Dublin, and Waterford clubs will be out, especially in the Juvenile Championships. The events are Novice men and women, boys and girls, U11, U13, U15, U17, and U19.
West Waterford AC is promoting the 17th Annual Paddy Joe Curran Memorial 5-mile run and 4 Mile walk on Sunday, December 7, in memory of their friend, Helen Power. The Walk begins at 11am and the run at 11.30am. Registration on the day at Marine Bar Dungarvan, sponsored by Cleanzone Technology Limited. All proceeds going to Solas Cancer Support Centre.
