National boxing gold once again for Michael Reilly

National boxing gold once again for Michael Reilly

Michael Reilly celebrates his boxing win with Willie and Paddy Reilly at the National Boxing Arena on Friday last after his 5-0 win over Edward Corcoran.

St. Paul’s boxer Michael Reilly produced a stunning performance in the ring to claim a third Irish title this year as he won the National Under 19 title at 55kg with a 5-0 win over Mullingar Elite boxing club member Edward Corcoran.

Reilly became an eighth-time National champion in the process with a dominant display against Corcoran, who himself is a European medal winner, but he came up against a Waterford man who was hungry for success.

This bout between two of Ireland’s most emerging talent stars was billed as one of the clashes of the night at the National Boxing Arena on Friday last, but the night belonged to Reilly, who showed his class in the ring once again.

He won the bout in the eyes of the judges 5-0 as he claimed his third National title on a night when he celebrated his birthday with Friday’s success coming on another great night for St. Paul’s boxing club.

There’s no doubting that the success of Reilly in recent years is worth taking note of as the IABA youth champion has enjoyed considerable success so far this year, boxing for his country at the Guildhall, while he also picked up an award at the Garda Youth Awards in his hometown earlier this summer.

Michael Reilly receives his medal and cert from High Performance Head Coach, Zaur Antia after his 55kg win over Edward Corcoran at the National Boxing Arena on Friday last.
