KGA sends first boys team to National Competition

KGA’s new Boys team of Luca Petcu, Kevin McSweeney and Codie Croke.

Kilbarry Gymnastics Academy (KGA) made a little bit of history recently as their newly formed Boys Competition Group competed for the first time at Gymnastics Ireland’s GymSTART Floor and Vault Competition in the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Dublin.

A record high of 2,000 gymnasts from 31 clubs performed across the two days, representing a huge increase of 800 gymnasts from last years’ event alone and a record audience attendance of 4,800.

On Day One of GymSTART the youngest member of the boys team Codie Croke competed in the Level One (U6) Competition finishing in third place and taking the Bronze medal in his first competition. Also on Day One Luca Petcu finished in first place taking the Gold Medal in the Level 2 (U9) Competition with teammate Kevin McSweeney finishing strongly in seventh place in the same competition.

On Day Two it was the turn of KGA’s mini advanced girls, again with some of the club’s youngest gymnasts taking to the floor. Leah Atkins finished in first place in Level 1 (U7 A) taking the Gold Medal and Grace Keane finishing third and taking the Bronze Medal at Level 1 (U8 B), Evelyn McCoy finished strongly in fourth Place in Level 1 (U8 A). At KGA’s last competition of Day Two Hannah Ryan finished in second place taking the Silver Medal home to Waterford in the Level 3 (U8 B) competition.

A delighted Maddie Croke, KGA Director and Head Coach expressed her pride in her young gymnasts; “It was great to see our young advanced gymnasts getting the opportunity to experience competitions and show off all their hard work.”

If you have any budding boy or girl gymnasts, booking has now opened for KGA’s Summer Camps. Camps involve a range of activities, games and use of all equipment and are a great opportunity to stay active and learn new skills. – you can find out more on Kilbarry Gymnastics Academy’s Instagram and Facebook pages or by emailing kilbarryg@gmail.com.
