Ferrybank AC hold annual awards at the Tower Hotel

A great crowd of athletes and their parents and guardians turned up on Thursday evening last at the "Tower Hotel" for the Ferrybank AC Annual Awards night. Two members of the County Board were invited to the occasion: County Chairman Shane Scanlon and Fintan Walsh, PRO, who were there to present the Awards to the various winners and teams.
The MC for the evening was Ciara Moloney Ferrybank, who announced the numerous winners, both individuals and teams. President of Athletics Ireland, Brid Golden Ferrybank, missed out on the event due to illness, and all in Waterford Athletics wish her a speedy recovery. It was a most enjoyable night.
Bryan Fay Raheny Shamrocks had a terrific run on Saturday last in Tallahasa, Florida. In the Senior Men's Race at the World Cross Country Championships, finished 16th overall of the 123-strong field.
He came through the field early on at a steady pace before coming through strongly in the last 2 km of the race. There were also two great runs by Niamh Allen, Leevale AC, and Fiona Everard, Bandon AC.
From early on, they were up with the field, then dropped back a few places, but again late finishes brought them up to 21st and 23rd places, respectively, in the Senior Women’s race, which had ninety athletes, and Noah Harris Parnell AC was 38th in the U20 race, which had 73 entries.

102 participated in the 37th Annual David Kiely 5 Miles Run in Colligan Wood today, and the athletes had to predict how long it would take them to run the course.
Melanie Kelly, over 65 from West Waterford A.C., won for the second year in a row, the only runner to ever do this in the 37-year history of the race.
She was three seconds inside her predicted time. The first male home was Robert Hellinga, Netherlands, just four seconds inside also. The winner of the McGrath News Agents Shield for juveniles was Shellagh May Curran, West Waterford AC.

On Sunday last, Sheila O'Donovan, Ferrybank AC, competed in two races at the Scottish Open Indoor Meeting in Glasgow. She won her U16 300 metres race in 44.41 seconds and finished second in the 60 metres hurdles in 9.65 seconds.
On Friday next, the Annual Waterford Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships are in St Augustine's College Grounds, Abbeyside, with an 11 am start. The Events are minor, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.
The Minor is under 14 on 1 July; the junior is under 15 on 1 July; the intermediate is under 17 on 1 July; and the senior is under 19 on 1 January. Teams are girls of 8 with 3 to score. Boys of 8 with 4 to score. Please note entries close this Tuesday, and only affiliated schools need to apply.
East Munster Secondary Schools Cross Country, SETU Arena, Waterford, at 12 noon on Thursday, January 29. Munster Secondary Schools Finals at 12 noon, Tramore Valley Park, Cork. Thursday, February 12. Saturday, March 7, All-Ireland Secondary Schools Cross Country, Newtownabbey. Belfast.
On Sunday, January 25, the Annual Frank Leahy Memorial Road Race will have a 12 noon start, preceded by a family walk at 11 noon. Registration on the day for both events opens at 10am at St Paul's Church Parish Centre for anyone who hasn't already registered.
One of the big Road Races of the year, "The John Treacy" 10 miles, will take place this year on February 1 in Dungarvan at 11am, and entries are already closed except for Elite Runners who have until January 25 to enter.
