Excellent conditions for county Cross-Country championships

Lily Ryan, St. Joseph’s AC, was awarded the Juvenile Athlete of the Month for August, sponsored by the credit unions of Waterford and St. Dominic. Lily earned the award for her 3rd place finish in the U20 3000m walk at the U20 and U23 National Track and Field Championships. Presenting the award are Robert Grace from Waterford Credit Union and Pat Murphy from St. Dominic Credit Union.
At the County Cross Country Championships in St Augustine's College Grounds Abbeyside on Sunday last in excellent conditions. The entries in the senior men and senior women Junior men and women and under 18 men and women were very disappointing and the underage seemed to be down also.
The following were the results. Senior Men 1st Aidan Connell, 2nd Justin Ryan, 3rd Garry Cantwell all West Waterford with West Waterford 1st and 2nd in the team awards. In the Senior Women, it was Kate Veale 1st, Angela Tobin 2nd and Fiona Connell third all West Waterford and West Waterford won the team.
In the Junior men's race Luke Savage Waterford was first and in the Junior women's Gráinne Moore was first with Angelina Chizhikova second both West Waterford. In the under 18 boys first home was Naoise Mac Murchada West Waterford from Stephen O'Hara and Ronan Ryan both Waterford and in the under 18 girls first home was Fia De Paor second was Sarah O'Riordan both West Waterford and Meabh Curtin Waterford was 3rd.
In the under sixteen boys Noah Commins West Waterford was first with T.J.Flanagan Waterford second and Jack Casey KCK third. Tramore won the team with 18pts. The under 16 girls was won by Lucy Clinton from Erin Butler and Saoirse Fitzgerald all Waterford who won the team with 12 points.
In the under 14 boys William McNally West Waterford won with Finn Kavanagh Waterford second and Ben Storey Tramore third. Tramore won the team with 13 points ,West Waterford were second on 17.
In the u14 girls Eimear Hayes Waterford won from Saoirse Ferguson and Siri O'Flynn both Ferrybank who won the team with 15 points from West Waterford on 40.
The Boys u12 went to Tiernan Hogan, West Waterford from Michael Ogle Tramore and Alex Foran Finisk Valley. West Waterford won the team with 27 pts, KCK were 2nd on 36 and Tramore third on 48. Amy Storey Tramore won the u12 girls from Aoibhin Fitzgerald Waterford and Zoe Johnson Ferrybank who won the team with 26 pts, West Waterford were 2nd with 32 and Waterford 3rd with 35. In the u10 Boys Luke Nevin won from Eoin Scollard both Ferrybank with Andy Raivis West Waterford third , Ferrybank won the team on 13 pts, West Waterford were second on 20 and third also on 50.In the girls u10 Clara Cadogan Tramore was first, Etain Mhurchadha West Waterford was second and Feya Power Waterford was third. Tramore were first team on 27 pts ,Waterford were second on 32 and West Waterford third on 37
On Sunday next, October 13, the County Cross Country Day 2 Championships for boys and girls u 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, and Novice men and women are at Tramore Racecourse at 11am with €5 per athlete for competition number). On Tramore Racecourse no dogs are allowed, no glass bottles on the course for obvious reasons and races are all inside the main racecourse and no watching races from main racecourse. All are asked to respect the inside and outside areas of the course. Another event on Sunday next is the Annual International Autumn Cross Country in Sport Ireland Campus Dublin with Senior and Masters races. The women have 4000 metres and men 8000 metres, also on the programme are the boys and girls u11,13,15, Relays and mixed relays u12,u14 and u 17 first event at 11.30am.
Tuesday, October 15 - Munster Schools Combined Events Nenagh ,Minor ,junior, intermediate and senior first event 11am Saturday, October 18 - Irish University Championships 19th The Farm, Ballinaspig More, Cork Start Time Women 2.00pm, Men 2.35pm Saturday October 26 - All Ireland Schools Combined Events with same grades as Munster.
Sunday, October 17 - National Marathon
On Sunday October 20, the Munster Novice, u20 and even age juvenile Championships are in Conna East Cork. On Sunday, November 3, the Munster Juvenile uneven age, Under 23 and Senior Cross Country Championships are on Tramore Racecourse and on Sunday, November 24, the Munster Intermediate and Juvenile Relays are in Turnpike Co Tipperary.
The Annual Solas Centre Road Races are in the City and Dungarvan this weekend on Saturday and Sunday On the Saturday it's Dungarvan and Sunday in the city. Both will have a 4 km walk and 10km Run and Walk both start at 10am.
The AGM of Waterford Athletic Club takes place in SETU on Wednesday, October 23, at 7.30pm. All members asked to attend. Training for Waterford AC juveniles is as follows Tuesdays and Thursday X Country / Distance SETU Arena 6 to7pm and Track and Field at the RSC from 7 to 8pm.
