Ryan Reynolds says a defibrillator would act as a sensible accompaniment to the new Welcome to Wrexham docuseries.

Disney+ unveiled the official trailer on Tuesday for the fifth series of FX’s Emmy award-winning show from Wrexham co-owners Reynolds and Rob Mac.

The Hollywood pair have taken Wrexham from the National League to the brink of the Premier League since buying the Welsh club five years ago.

“I think a defibrillator is the traditional fifth season gift?” Deadpool star Reynolds said on X while sharing a trailer showing Wrexham preparing for life in the Sky Bet Championship following three successive promotions.

“Would make sense for this show. @WrexhamFX returns May 14.”

Earlier this month it was announced Welcome To Wrexham has been renewed for a further three seasons, meaning the show will run until 2029.

The FX series, which has highlighted stories of players and staff at the club as well as people in the wider Wrexham community, has won 10 Emmy Awards and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

Season five chronicles Wrexham’s current quest to reach the top tier of English football under manager Phil Parkinson and a new-look squad constructed in the summer of 2025.

Wrexham play Middlesbrough at home on Saturday in their final game of the regular Championship season.

The Red Dragons currently occupy the final play-off position in sixth place and are potentially four games away from playing in the Premier League.
