Strong finish wins the day for St. Stephen's

St Stephen's captain players celebrate after defeating Ferrybank in their Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Roinn B Cup Football Final played in Walsh Park
St. Stephen's played St. Mary's Ferrybank in the U13 B Cup final on Tuesday, October 24. St. Stephen's started well but good defending by Ferrybank kept the scoring low. St. Stephen's took the lead with some well worked team scores by Alex Halik and Dale Elliot. St. Stephen's went further ahead when a shot was blocked by the Ferrybank defense but Jay Twomey was there to finish the rebound into the net to leave the score 1-3 to 0-0 at half time.
Both teams tried extremely hard in the second half with both defences coming out on top. Both teams made changes which helped the Ferrybank fight back. After they had hit the crossbar Ferrybank followed up with a goal to bring the score back to 1-3 to 1-0. In a very exciting last 5 minutes St. Stephen's hit on the break and Alex Halik sealed the game with a brilliant run and point to finish the scoring. Well done to both teams and teachers on a very sporting and fair game. Both teams were a credit to their schools.
