Shock win for Brickeys opens up semi-final race

De La Salle who defeated Roanmore in Co. Minor Hurling Championship match played in Gracedieu

Beaten in their earlier games against Abbeyside and Dungarvan Brickey Rangers caused a big surprise in Bushy Park last week when scoring a 2-21 to 5-11 win over a fancied Mount Sion side. The heroes for the Brickeys were goalkeeper Scott Colins and forwards Paddy McCarthy (0-13) and Callum Royle (1-4).

Mount Sion would have been favourites to join Ballygunner, De La Salle and Roanmore in the semi-finals but this defeat opens the door for others , particularly Abbeyside who host Mount Sion in The Burgery venue tomorrow evening where a defeat for the city side would virtually rule them out of a semi-final place with games against De La Salle and Ballygunner to follow.

Abbeyside pushed De La Salle all the way last week in Gracedieu before going down on a score of 1-18 to 2-11. As expected Roanmore had a facile home win over Ballyduff Upper while Ballygunner continued their unbeaten run with a 2-16 to 0-9 win over Dungarvan.

While the clash of Mount Sion and Abbeyside has assumed a new importance the big game tomorrow will be the clash of unbeaten sides Ballygunner and De La Salle in James McGinn Park (6.30 pm) The remaining Division 1 games tomorrow will see Dungarvan at home to Roanmore and Brickey Rangers at home to Ballyduff Upper with all three down for a 7.30 pm start.

The big game in Division 2 tomorrow is in Lismore where the home side, currently top of the table will take on an unbeaten Clonea side who have a game in hand. Joint leaders Passage are at home to Erins Own while St. Saviours/Ferrybank host St. Patricks in Ferrybank.
