Process to be put in place to appoint successor

Waterford County Board chairman, Sean Michael O’Regan has thanked Davy Fitzgerald for his work with the senior hurlers for the last two years.

The Waterford County Board will undergo a process to find a successor to Davy Fitzgerald as Waterford Senior hurling manager after his decision not to take up an option of a third-term for the 2025 season.

With the usual names expected to go into the hat in a bid to take over the reigns as Déise boss, Waterford GAA chairperson Sean Micheal O’Regan thanked Davy for his “hard work and dedication” to the job over the last two years.

After Fitzgerald issued a statement through John Fogarty in the Irish Examiner, Waterford GAA released a late night one of their own that confirmed that the news.

"PASSION AND COMMITMENT"

Their statement read: “Waterford GAA wish to confirm that Davy Fitzgerald has this evening informed the Waterford County Board that he has decided not to take up the option of a third year as Manager of the Waterford Senior Hurling team.

“During his tenure, Davy led the team with passion and commitment. His tactical acumen and leadership were instrumental in shaping the team’s performance. The players, backroom team and fans alike appreciate his contributions.” 

Sean Micheal O’Regan stated that: “We sincerely thank Davy for his hard work and dedication over the past two years. His impact on the team has been significant, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavours.” 

The Waterford GAA statement concluded: “A process will now be put in place for the appointment of a new Senior Hurling Team Management. Waterford GAA will not be issuing any further comment at this time.”
