Peter Queally is weighing up his future as Waterford senior hurling manager. His two-year term expired on Sunday afternoon after the Déise exited the Munster championship courtesy of a nine point loss to Limerick.

“I’ll have to go away and think about it. I had a two-year term. I’ll have to talk to my family and talk to the county board and see what’s best for Waterford going forward.”

The Ballydurn man was proud of the performance his team produced in the face of adversity. The visitors led by two points with 60 minutes on the clock. Two Limerick goals in 60 seconds by Peter Casey and Gearoid Hegarty sent them out of the Munster championship.

“So proud of the lads and the effort they put in. You can’t fault them. Every day they go out, they just give it everything. Things mightn’t be going their way and they might have a few setbacks but they just keep going. Our heads were in a bit of a spin in the first ten minutes, Limerick were at their awesome best early on, getting scores from every angle. Their accuracy was spot on.

"The lads got to grips with it then and converted a lot of half-chances; their shooting accuracy was very good. Probably didn’t have enough of a lead, the period just before half time when we were 15-10 up and conceded five killed us a bit. Having said that, in the first 25 minutes of the second half the lads were outstanding.

"It mightn’t have been brilliant hurling but it was real Munster championship hurling. They really dug in well and played really well. We ran out of steam a small bit after the concession of the two goals. If we were still leading going into the last five or six minutes, maybe we would have found reserves somewhere. Once the two goals went in, it was curtains then.”

He felt that Aidan O’Connor dropped his hurley in the act of hand-passing the ball to Hegarty for the second Limerick goal. “Our eyes don’t lie! I didn’t see a replay; I saw it first hand, and so did a lot of people here. Unfortunately, the man who counts the most didn’t see it. We just have to get on with it again.”
