Hutchinson fired 1-6 from play as Ballygunner beat Mount Sion 2-35 to 1-16 in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship Final - lifting their twelfth title in a row. Hutchinson was in scintillating form throughout the course of the championship, firing 7-57 along the way to another historic success. He also turned his attention to football in September, scoring three more goals as Gaultier made it to the Waterford Senior Football Championship semi-finals.

Speaking when accepting the award, Hutchinson said: “To get an individual award is great, particularly having been a winner of the WLR Granville GAA Awards in the past. Now that it’s an overall sports award, it’s extra nice to be recognised.

The award is more so a reflection of the team and what the club has done in the last few years that allows me to perform in certain games throughout the course of the year - so I’m absolutely delighted to get it.”

Focus now turns to the Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship, a competition the Gunners have won in three of the last four seasons. Hutchinson admits that Ballygunner make no secret of their grand ambitions every time the provincial competition comes around - but they’re not looking beyond their task at hand.

“It’s another Munster Championship - and as a player, you want to win as much as you can. Going to Limerick is no easy thing to do, and we’ve been down there, and people might say we have the experience, but it could be another new team that we’re playing again this year.

"It might be Doon again who themselves will have a point to prove against us if that’s who comes through - so we definitely won’t be focusing past the first game in Limerick. We know full well that it’s going to be such a battle.”

Each month, an outstanding sports star will be crowned the winner of the monthly WLR Granville Hotel Waterford Sports Awards.

The 12 monthly recipients will then gather for a black-tie Gala Banquet at the Granville Hotel on January 17th 2026, as the overall WLR Granville Hotel Waterford Sports Star of the Year and next entrant to the Waterford Sporting Hall of Fame will be revealed.
