The two Waterford hurlers, Micheal Harney and Ciaran Kirwan, who were both denied transfer requests to play for Clonea in the Waterford Senior hurling championship, have transferred to Kilkenny senior side Glenmore.

Both players lined out for the South-Kilkenny club in their 1-18 to 0-21 draw with Dicksboro in the St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior League on Sunday last at Dr. Tierney Park in Graiguenamanagh, after they were both denied the opportunity to line put for Clonea in the local Waterford championship.

After having requested to join Clonea, who just survived relegation with playoff victory over Tallow last weekend in time for the start of the Waterford senior championship, initially rejected by the Waterford GAA’s CCC, this was appealed to the DRA.

Despite that body judging in favour of both players where they cited that Waterford GAA “failed to adequately set out the reasons for the refusal of the Claimant’s application” before ordering that their application to join Clonea be remitted to Waterford GAA’s CCC for processing, but it was rejected again.

Both players, who have lined out for the county with Harney a member of the senior hurling panel last year, had looked to move to Clonea as their respective clubs Bonmahon and Kill were football-only for the 2024 championship.

Instead the two players have transferred across the border to Kilkenny where they’ll prepare for Glenmore’s second game in the senior league when they take on Thomastown in a game due to be played in Piltown on this Saturday afternoon at noon.
