Former Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins and former Waterford Senior hurling captain Stephen Molumphy have emerged as the new frontrunners to replace Peter Queally as the new Waterford Senior hurling manager.
As reported by the Irish Examiner, both men are now linked with the position vacated by Queally at the end of the Munster Championship after the county board decided against offering the Ballydurn clubman an extension to his term.
As reported by the Irish Times, Cummins stepped down as Tipperary Under 20 boss on Monday last, with a speculated move to Waterford as new Déise boss rumoured in recent days, where he could be joined by Déise man Molumphy.
Molumphy, who captained Waterford to land the 2010 Munster final with victory over Cork, has spent the last two years in a post in Brussels and Ukraine as part of his role as a lieutenant colonel in the Defence Forces. He is due to return home this month.
Speculation has been rife that the Ballyduff Upper clubman would form part of the new management team expected to be confirmed soon, but whether Donal O’Rourke, who was coach under Queally in the last campaign, remains on board is uncertain.
Another name that has been strongly rumoured on social media in recent days is that of former Déise manager Derek McGrath, who is also linked with the Wexford managerial hotseat that is currently unfilled after the departure of Keith Rossiter.
