Keeley Corbett-Barry was in demand for photos on Saturday after completing a senior camogie and ladies football double in the space of eight days.
“It’s unbelievable," she said. "I consider myself an extremely lucky girl to be able to represent two clubs that are just the epitome of heart, commitment and dedication. There’s nothing done without the 30 odd girls on each panel. I’m so, so proud that I come from two very hard working clubs. It’s amazing.”
The number eight was thrilled to see Shayla Condon pick up Player of the Match, saying: “She is like a little terrier in the corner! Nothing comes easy off her. It was so well deserved.”
Beth Carton lifted the county cup for the first time as captain. “To be honest, it means everything," Corbett-Barry said. "It’s any player’s dream. You obviously dream of All Irelands but to win a county championship with your club, it means everything. There was hurt there after last year. It’s just really nice to get it back and win with this bunch of girls.”
There was nothing left in the tank after another full blooded affair with Gailltir. “To be honest, I’m fairly tired standing here! It took absolutely everything," she said. "Near the end, there was people out on their feet.”
Selector John Mullane felt that senior title number three was extra special, saying: “Three in four years now and I think that this is the best of the three. Last year, we got beaten and we felt that we lost it ourselves. Credit Gailltir but we left the door open for them and they took their opportunity.
"We’ve a serious bunch of girls. I keep saying it, we have the best girl in the country in Beth Carton. When you have Beth Carton taking the field, you have a chance of winning any game of camogie.”
He also showered praise on 17 year old Shayla Condon. “She is like a rash," he said. "I’m not surprised; I’ve seen Shayla play the whole way up. Shayla would have played a lot of her camogie in midfield but she has pace, she is touch tight. After the first five minutes, she showed no signs of fear. For me, she was a deserving Player of the Match.”
The five-time All Star is enjoying every moment of this De La Salle camogie journey. His daughter Abbie lined out in his famous number thirteen shirt on Saturday. “The best thing you’ll ever do is get involved with a women’s team," she said.
"They’re an extraordinary bunch of girls. The level of commitment, the level of training and the preparation, they put some of the men to shame. We had to dig deep again today. Any time we play Gailltir, we always have to dig deep. Maggie Gostl’s goals were just class.”
