Butlerstown 2-3

Ballygunner 0-1

A day to remember for everyone in Scoil Mhuire, Butlerstown.

Roinn A Eastern camogie champions for the first time in the school’s history.

The day started off with one of our star players leaving her boots on the bus and another player leaving their socks at home. We thought things were not going to go our way but how wrong we were.

The game started with Clodagh Kavanagh scoring a goal which helped settle our nerves. Hannah Duffy then made a few excellent saves to stop Ballygunner scoring a point.

Ballygunner then retaliated and scored a great point from a free.

Our backs in the first-half were outstanding. There was great play from Hannah Grant, Hollie, Grace Walsh and Saoirse Balfe and Meadbh and Eadaoin.

Emma Connolly and Katie Nolan were unlucky not to score two points in the first-half - great effort from these two star players. Our captain Grace Godkin kept battling away and scored a fantastic point from the halfway-line.

We were glad of the half-time whistle for a breather. Ballygunner came out in the second-half and threw everything at us but they could not get past our back line.

We moved Ellen Murphy up to the backs in the second-half and she played a great game helped out by Alison Goff who didn't put a foot wrong all day.

Grace Godkin then hit over another point and got a fantastic goal to push our lead a little bit further ahead. With a fantastic panel of Colleen, Aisling, Pippa, Shona and Caoimhe we brought Colleen on with five minutes to go and she did everything that was asked of her.

Our substitutes were ready at all times and were a huge support to the team throughout the match.

The final whistle sounded with the final score reading Butlerstown 2-3 to Ballygunner’s 0-1.

It was a fantastic game of camogie played in the fabulous Walsh Park.
