CAPPOQUIN 2-10

TRAMORE 1-10

Adrian Flanagan at SETU Arena Cappoquin claimed the Loanitt Waterford Senior B Camogie County Final title with an inspired display from county star Lorraine Bray as her six points from play yielded by a crucial two first-half goals from Aislinn Cahillane gave them a 2-10 to 1-10 win over Tramore at the SETU Arena on Saturday last.

After Cappoquin had the bright start with Aishling Power narrowly wide inside two minutes, Tramore slowly creeped into the game with Ceri Griffin firing wide of the left-hand post a minute later before the opening score arrived through a Tara Power free on seven minutes after Griffin was fouled.

GOAL BLITZ

Power added to her tally with an angled 45-metre placed ball a minute later before county star Lorraine Bray landed Cappoquin’s first score from play with nine minutes on the clock. Kim McGrath scored Tramore’s first score from play with a neat effort two minutes later before Aislinn Cahallane had a big goal chance for Cappoquin on 12 minutes, but her effort cleared the crossbar for a point.

Emma Corkery swung the final big time in Tramore’s favour in the space of a minute as the nippy corner-forward scored a 1-1 with her 16th minute goal coming after some good play from Louise Walsh. Back came Cappoquin with Caoimhe Reynolds setting up Aislinn Cahallane for a goal two minutes later before Bray narrowed the gap further with a well-taken point to leave the score 1-4 to 1-3 with 20 minutes played.

Referee Robbie Dunne infuriated the Cappoquin faithful on 27 minutes when he played an advantage first as Lorraine Bray’s ball was finished to the net by Cahallane, but the official called back play to award a free that was pointed by Aishling Power with Bray putting her side in front a minute later from play.

Cappoquin’s strong finish to the first-half did yield a second green flag on 30 minutes with the same player denied her hat-trick by a fine Hayleigh Acheson save that resulted in Power landing the resulting 45 as the Western outfit went in leading 2-6 to 1-4 at the half-time break.

POINTING THE WAY

Lorraine Bray got her side off to a perfect start in the second-half as within seconds, she had extended the Cappoquin advantage to six points, but the seaside outfit responded well with Tara Power landing a point from a placed ball before Kim McGrath, Kelsie Obanya and Emma Corkery brought it back to two points.

The influential Bray chipped in with another two points that were sandwiched between Saoirse O’Brien’s effort for Tramore as the game hung in the balance at 2-9 to 1-9 with nine minutes remaining on the clock before Tara Power brought it back to two points on 54 minutes.

Power missed a chance to bring it back to a minimum soon afterwards as she was wide with a 45 before Lorraine Bray thought that she had extended the lead only for keeper Hayleigh Acheson to get a vital touch for a 45 that Aisling Power converted to leave a goal behind the teams two minutes into added time.

As the rain poured down, Tramore looked for a penalty after they saw a push on Tara Power, but referee Dunne was rightly unmoved and a minute later, the final whistle sounded as Lorraine Bray inspired Cappoquin to final glory.
