Back-to-back defeats for Waterford in camogie league

Waterford suffered another one score defeat to Galway in the second round of the National Camogie League on Saturday afternoon.
Jerry Wallace's side led by four points early in the second half, after Maggie Gostl found the net, but went 32 minutes without a score and endured their second loss of the campaign.
Galway got eight unanswered singles to secure back to back wins. Carrie Dolan knocked over eight frees while defenders Shauna Healy, Ciara Hickey and Aine Keane came up with big second half scores.
The Westerners raced 5-1 up after eight minutes. Carrie Dolan converted two frees while Sabina Rabbitte, Niamh Niland and Olwen Rabbitte also split the posts. Maggie Gostl scored for Waterford from an acute angle. Abby Flynn beat two Galway defenders but her close range effort was saved by goalkeeper Sarah Healy.
Mairéad O'Brien, Flynn and Gostl looked dangerous up top and the home side grew into the game. Niamh Rockett fired two points while Mairéad O'Brien and Flynn knocked over one apiece to level the contest. O'Brien saw a shot deflected away for a 45 which Beth Carton converted (0-6 to 0-5). Niamh Mallon equalised off a Waterford turnover. The Impressive O'Brien restored the Déise's lead with her second point. On 27 minutes, Carton got in behind the Galway rearguard and played a pass across to Goal who deflected the ball home. A four point deficit was now a four point lead. Dolan nailed her third free in injury time as the Déise led by three at the break (1-7 to 0-7).
Gostl was surprisingly substituted as Annie Fitzgerald entered the fray at corner forward. Carton put the hosts four ahead once again with a free a minute into the second period. Dolan dispatched three at the opposite end. Corner back Shauna Healy levelled it up with eight minutes to play (1-8 to 0-11).
Centre back Ciara Hickey sent over the lead point from distance. Another Dolan free followed. Carton pulled a late free wide of the target. Eimear O'Neill missed another. Injury time efforts from Aine Keane and Dolan (free) sent the Tribeswomen four in front. Carton hit back with a free. Waterford's first score in all of 32 minutes. Galway wanted to hear the final whistle but Gavin Donegan played seven added minutes. O'Brien failed to connect with a Carton free as the sliotar sailed left and wide.
