A number of security workers were assaulted and vehicles were damaged by fire at a site that has been earmarked for refugees in Co Tipperary.

The incident happened in Clonmel on Thursday.

Security personnel contracted to work on the site were attacked by a number of people.

One of the workers required hospital treatment and a number of vehicles were damaged.

Gardaí said no arrests have been made.

Some work had begun at the site, where a number of modular homes are expected to be built.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact Clonmel Garda station on 052-617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666 111, or any Garda station.

They have also asked for any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were near the Heywood Road and Clonmel Rugby Club areas between 10.45pm and 11.30pm on Thursday, to make this footage available to gardaí.
