Rich history, stunning coastline, and a vibrant cultural scene, Waterford becomes a playground for both locals and visitors during the warm months.

But how exactly do people in Waterford make the most of their summer days?

Whether it's enjoying a peaceful afternoon at one of the many local beaches, taking a scenic walk on the Greenway, or participating in beloved local festivals and musical offerings, locals this week said that they are looking forward to the summer months in Waterford.

Curious to learn more about how locals make the most of their summer in Waterford, we ventured out to ask the community on the streets of the city.

Danny O’Reilly said: “I like to go to the beach, especially in Tramore. 

"We have a good coastal area in Waterford and there’s plenty to do on all the beaches. It's like the Mediterranean during the summer in Waterford."

Marie O'Neill and Marie Cummins added that Waterford’s beaches are also the highlight of their summers.

Marie O’Neill said, “I love Tramore, with a 99 and chips out of Dooley's. That’s the best part of the summer for me."

“If we could get good sunshine during the summer that’s all we can ask for, but I do love going to the beach in the summer,” Marie Cummins told us.

In recent weeks recurring Waterford music festivals have been announcing their Summer 2024 lineups. 

All Together Now, Summer In The City, Comeragh’s Wild and The Churchyard Sessions have all officially unveiled their upcoming lineups of local and national musicians.

Chantelle Robinson added that Waterford’s thriving music and festival season is what she is looking forward to most this year.

“I like the music and festivals that are on in the city during the summer. Summer in the City is back now and I’m looking forward to that. The Churchyard Sessions is another one that’s popular in the summer that I enjoy."
