Darragh's Soapbox: Locals react to new murals adding colour to the streets of Waterford

Waterford Walls has returned and the city is once again awash with colour.
Every summer, the annual festival transforms walls across the city into vibrant art pieces.
Around every corner and street, international and local artists can be seen hard at work offering their artistic flair to local walls.
This year, new murals have popped up in dozens of prominent locations, including Waterford Garda Station, Dooley's Hotel and Waterford Greenway Bike Hire on the quay.
Commenting on this year’s offerings,
said, “Each year, Waterford Walls brings new energy, colour, and conversation to the city. 2025 is no different, with world-class talent, new interactive experiences, and more ways than ever to connect with the art and the artists."On the streets of the city centre last week, locals gushed over the latest murals, which have been popping up, and expressed satisfaction over the uniqueness of the festival.

"It's good that walls are getting updates all the time and it gives a good vibe. There's a happiness around the city and it's great to see colour added to the streets.
"There's some fantastic murals gone up across the city since the festival started."

"It makes the place look so much better and it makes the town vibrant, especially the more rundown areas.
"It turns a street into something completely different every year, and it gives you something to look at.
"Even just walking down a street now, people can stop for five minutes to look around."
