Works have begun on the flood defence system in Ferrybank
Works have commenced on the railway flood defence scheme as part of the North Quays development in Waterford.
A report on the works was presented to the members of Piltown Municipal District by Acting Director of Services with Kilkenny County Council, Ian Gardner, in which he outlined some of the work being carried out.
Mr Gardner said the sheet pile wall has been installed to the west of the transport hub and sheet piling works to the west of Rice Bridge are anticipated to commence in May.
He said subsequent phases of the flood defence system will include trackside drainage, flood defence barriers at Plunkett Station, pumping stations and outfalls.
The councillors were also informed that Harcourt Developments submitted further information in respect of their planning application for Phase 1 of the North Quays SDZ development.
A planning decision is due on the proposal by April 10.
