Councillors at the October sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council extended a vote of sympathy to the family of the late Anthony Walsh.

Mr Walsh passed away on Wednesday, October 8.

Cllr Damien Geoghegan led tributes by highlighting Mr Walsh’s work in the council and GAA.

“Of course, he would be well known the length and breadth of Ireland in the GAA, where he held many positions as secretary of the western board and on the Munster council league.

“So I would like to send my sympathies to Anthony’s family,” said Cllr Geoghegan.

Cllr Tom Cronin said that Mr Walsh’s daughter Antoinette works at the council and he said he would like to extend his sympathy to her and her family.

Cllr Cronin said he knew Mr Walsh well from his GAA days and has many entertaining stories, none of which he could tell at a council meeting.

“Many the fella was threatened to be put out the window when they came in looking for a ticket for a match,” joked Cllr Cronin.

Cllr Thomas Phelan said he also knew the late Mr Walsh.

“I had the privilege of serving on the county sports committee and Anthony was a great administrator and will be sadly missed and my condolences to Antoinette and all the family,” said Cllr Phelan.

Mr Walsh was laid to rest on Saturday, October 11.

He is sadly missed by his wife Patsy, sons Richard, Alan and Kenneth, daughter Antoinette, daughters-in-law Andrea, Aoife and Michelle, son-in-law David, grandchildren Hannah, Seán, Rebecca, Lucy, Clodagh, Ronan and Grace, brothers Francis and Seán, sister Breda and their families, extended family and many friends.
