The Viking Hotel in Waterford have officially launched their 98 newly renovated guest rooms.

At the official launch last week, guests enjoyed an evening of food and drinks, live music and the chance to explore the rooms, which were designed by renowned architect Hugh Wallace.

Hugh joined as special guest for the evening. The night also brought together local faces and friends of the hotel, including Government Chief Whip & Minister of State Mary Butler, Waterford Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Doolin and the Kelly Family Noel and Noleen, owners of Viking Hotel Waterford.

General Manager Karen Dollery commented, “We are so proud of the transformation and the reaction from our guests has been fantastic. Hugh Wallace has brought a real sense of style and comfort to these rooms and we’re delighted with the finished product.

"Whether staying for business or leisure, we know our guests will enjoy a truly relaxing experience.”

Speaking on the design of the new rooms, architect Hugh Wallace said, "When you go into a room, particularly in a hotel like this, it's about being able to relax and chill out. That to me is so important.

"The size of the rooms are really generous, with tables, sitting areas and couches. The food here is also fabulous and to me that's what a hotel is about.

"The statistics speak for themselves, there was 133,000 covers served in this restaurant last year, which is roughly 360 covers a day and I think that's just amazing.

"You can have good food, good bedrooms and this hotel is just fantastic because of accessibility not only to Waterford, but to Dungarvan and Passage East.

"I think Waterford is one of those counties where there's so much to do and see. I used to go to Tramore as a kid and to me I love that experience because it's about family. I think Waterford is a great location for a holiday."
