Waterford Spar store announces it will close early next month

Spar on Fountain Street, Ferrybank, is to close in May.
Spar in Ferrybank has announced they are to close in May.
In a post on social media, store management said: "To all of our customers and friends.
"The proprietor of Spar Ferrybank has made the difficult decision to cease trading in early May 2025.
"Unfortunately, the store has been experiencing a decline in profitability for some time, despite our best efforts, it is no longer sustainable.
"On behalf of Aidan, the proprietor, Sabrina and all of the staff, we would like to thank our loyal customers and suppliers from over the years."
Users on social media reacted to the news, with most wishing the staff and proprietor well in the future.
One poster wrote: "Very sad news for Ferrybank, so sorry for all the staff to hear this sad news."
Another wrote: "Sorry to read this, it was a great shop, lovely staff."
The shop itself has been a long-standing fixture on Fountain Street and holds fond memories for many.
One poster wrote: "Been in and out of this shop since early childhood, hanging around as a teenager when they decided to add a seating area in there, and then it becoming the first shop I bought fags in when I turned 18 with an ID, the memories made in a local shop, we even still think of Walshe's Lotto shop, this is devastating, best of luck to the staff for the future."
