Waterford says goodbye to legend and Sensei Dermot Carew

Tributes have been paid to Waterford Shotokan Karate founding member Dermot Carew, who passed away last week.
Waterford Shotokan Karate wrote in a post on social media:
“It’s with great sadness, we announce the passing of Our Sensei Dermot Carew.
"With over 60 years devoted to martial arts and as a founding member of Waterford Shotokan Karate Club .
"We will sadly miss a true Waterford legend. May He Rest In Peace.”
The Shotokan Karate International Federation also posted saying they were sad to hear of Sensei Carew’s passing.
Dermot of Sunrise Crescent and formally Ferrybank passed away on September 18.
He was laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the Sacred Heart Church in Ferrybank on Sunday.
He is sadly missed by his sons Shane and Daniel, daughters Noreen, Kelly and Jennifer, sons-in-law Nicky and Jamie, daughters-in-law Cathy and Klaudia, grandchildren Dale, Ciarán, Daisy, Leah, Lacey, Mason, Daniel and Tilly, and great-grandchildren Spencer and baby Carew, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Hundred of people including students, friends and neighours have expressed their condolences on social media and through RIP.ie.
Those who knew him say he was a "lovely man," warm, gentle and "a gentleman."
