Last week, councillors voiced the serious need to upgrade parks in the Dungarvan area.

During their monthly Dungarvan-Lismore district meeting, local councillors said that Linear Park, Walton Park and Dungarvan Town Park are due upgrades.

Speaking on the matter, Cllr Damien Geoghegan said that "Linear Park and Dungarvan Town Park need to be brought up to the same standard as Walton Park.

"There’s no point in going in there in October and doing work then, because we need this for the summer," he added.

Maria Goff, Senior Executive Engineer at Waterford City and County Council said contracts for works to be completed are underway.

Ms Goff said, “Regarding playgrounds, in Linear and Walton Park, we’ve awarded the contract and works will commence in September this year."

Sean Gormley, Executive Engineer with Waterford City and County Council, added: "With the parks in Dungarvan there's a lot of work.

"There are lots of things to do in Linear Park. Linear Park and Walton Parks are both due major upgrades. There's quite a bit of work being done, we’d love to do more and it will happen."
