A local man appeared in court last week for attacking a bouncer a year after he had refused him entry to a bar.

The attacked party was eating a meal with his family in the Uluru when he was attacked.

"I just wanted to get him back," the assailant told Gardaí.

Court hearing

Michael Taylor, with an address at 2 Ardmore Park, Ballybeg, pleaded guilty to one count of assault and two counts of making threats to kill or cause serious harm.

He appeared in Waterford Circuit Court last week in relation to the offences.

Assault

The incident of assault took place in the Uluru Bar & Restaurant.

The attacked party was eating a meal with his family in the premises at the time.

CCTV footage shows two men, Taylor and his father, approaching the group who were sitting at a table.

Taylor struck the man with two punches to the head.

The attacked party suffered a nasal fracture and damage to his eye area.

He alerted Gardaí to the incident and Taylor was subsequently located and interviewed.

Taylor told gardaí during the interview that the attacked party had refused him entry to a licensed premises while he was working as a bouncer in the city, a year prior to the incident in the Uluru.

“I just wanted to get him back,” he told gardaí.

Threats

Taylor had also sent threatening messages and voice notes to the attacked party.

The messages contained “extremely offensive language", the court heard.

“Shocking”

Judge Eugene O’Kelly outlined to the court that the Uluru is a family patroned premises, and that the attack took place on a Sunday afternoon when families were present.

He said that the injured party was “a totally innocent man who was enjoying a meal with his family”.

He described Taylor’s behaviour as “shocking”.

Michael Taylor is due to return for sentencing on January 14.
