Waterford Local Link service is reinstated following anti-social behaviour issues
A Local Link service between Dungarvan and Clonmel, which was temporarily suspended due to anti-social behaviour issues, has been reinstated.
Speaking on the matter last week, TD for Tipperary South, Michael Murphy, said he was ‘very concerned’ over the suspension.
‘This service is an essential lifeline for many residents who depend on it for access to work, education and essential connections’ he said.
Deputy Murphy added that he engaged with a local Garda Superintendent and was informed that despite claims of anti-social behaviour, no incidents matching those described have been reported in recent weeks.
As a result, Gardaí have not had the opportunity to investigate or provide targeted support in those areas.
‘While I fully appreciated the operators’ concerns regarding driver and passenger safety, it is vital that any such incidents are formally reported to An Garda Siochana so that appropriate action can be taken' Murphy said.
‘The Superintendent has made clear that, with proper engagement, Garda resources can be deployed to ensure the continued safe operation of services.'
In an update last night, Local Link Waterford posted the following statement:
"TFI Local Link Waterford are pleased to confirm that services to Old Bridge and Raheen will be reinstated from 5pm (17:00) today, Monday, November 3.
"We would like to sincerely thank Michael Murphy TD for his assistance, and our passengers for their understanding regarding the temporary suspension over the weekend. Safety of our drivers and passengers will always be our first priority.
"We appreciate the cooperation of everyone in ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted operation of this service, which is of great benefit to residents in the Old Bridge and Raheen areas."
