Waterford landscaper found with drugs offered chance to avoid conviction
Waterford Courthouse.
A landscaper who was found with over a €1,000 worth of cannabis, which he was holding for someone else, has been offered the chance to avoid a conviction.
Oliver Jurovych (20) of 8 Springfield Park, Summerhill, Waterford, was before Judge John Cheatle at a sitting of Waterford District Court charged with possession of drugs and possession with the intent to sell or supply, contrary to Sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
The court was told that on May 24, 2025, gardaí executed a search warrant at the defendant’s address and vehicle and found €1,006 worth of cannabis in individual bags.
The defendant admitted to gardaí that he was asked to store the drugs for someone else.
The court was told that the defendant had no previous convictions.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham said that his client was paid €300 to hold the drugs.
In mitigation, he said his client was 19 at the time and described him as an “impressionable young man,” who has learned from the experience.
He is in full-time employment as a landscaper.
Judge Cheatle ordered the man to pay €500 to the court poor box, and if he does so by March 3, the matter will be struck out.
