Waterford hurling's 'golden age' to be recalled at talk

The event will provide a glimpse into an iconic period in Waterford sporting history

Ardkeen Library will be venue for what promises to be a great evening out for sports fans on Tuesday, February 25.

Beginning at 6.30pm, the library will play host to a talk by Brian Kelly, passionate Waterford hurling fan and author of a new book on the legendary 1959 All-Ireland team.

Brian will share the journey behind his research and bring to life stories from Waterford's last All-Ireland victory.

Told through the voices of the players - both from the Waterford panel and their rivals - his book captures the triumphs and adventures of what was an unforgettable year.

From facing the 'Rest of Ireland' team to playing in Wembley Stadium and touring New York, the talk promises to be a fascinating dive into the highs of Déise hurling history.

However, in addition to being a marker on an iconic period in Waterford sport, the book is more than just about sport as it paints a vivid picture of what life was like in 1959 Ireland. It's a rich blend of thrilling match accounts mixed with social history.
